Department Overview
The Law Department provides timely, efficient and business-focused legal services to the company. The Law Gas & Electric Operations team provides both regulatory and transactional support to clients across a broad spectrum of matters involving state and federal regulatory agencies, primarily related to energy operations, including transmission development and rates, electrification, decarbonization, wildfire safety, electric and gas safety, large load, service planning, land rights and enforcement, clean fuels, transition of the natural gas system, and legislative initiatives.
Position Summary

The Counsel Attorney will report to the Managing Counsel for Law Gas & Electric Operations and will be responsible for providing legal support as well as advice and counsel to Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s electric operations, electric transmission, commercial, finance, and service planning teams, including assisting in regulatory proceedings at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and transactions involving electric transmission development, FERC compliance, and service planning for customers.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business needs or company requirements. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory and will be agreed upon by the successful candidate and hiring leader.
PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position. The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum and the midpoint. The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities
- Represent PG&E in regulatory proceedings before FERC, including hearings, workshops, written submissions, and filings. Research and draft pleadings for submission to regulatory bodies in respective proceedings.
- Develop and implement regulatory strategies as part of team that include regulatory affairs, commercial, finance and client representatives from policy and operations organizations.
- Provide advice and counsel to management and project teams on legal and regulatory issues and strategy.
- Provide advice and counsel and legal support on FERC compliance matters.
- Consult with other attorneys in the Law Department regarding key business and legal issues.
- Strategize on and provide advice on legislative initiatives that impact electric operations.
- Research, review, interpret, and provide advice and counsel on transactions involving transmission development.
- Support internal investigations and responses to regulatory enforcement actions concerning electric incidents.
- Under supervision, manage and coordinate outside counsel handling specific proceedings or issues.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in California (or Registered In-House Counsel)
- 6 years of experience, which may include other industry experience relevant to the position
- Experience as Attorney, 3 years

- Ability to represent PG&E in proceedings before regulatory bodies, including prior experience in state public utility commission and FERC proceedings or administrative litigation.

- Experience directly advising clients and ability to provide a high level of client service.
- Ability to set priorities and to respond to changing demands from multiple internal and external sources.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Strong academic record.
