Summary: Leadership for Transmission Grid Operations Training manages the teams that provide the compliance expertise, development and training delivery, and emergency simulation drills for Transmission Operations (TO).   Transmission Grid Operations Training is a central point of support for the Transmission Grid Operations, Transmission Line and Substation departments. The incumbents work interdepartmentally within Transmission Operations to manage risk and ensure regulatory compliance via the initiatives, projects, reports, drills, simulations, and training programs the group produces.

 

The Training & Simulation Specialist assists in curriculum development, training delivery, and the development of technology-based training media for System Dispatchers and Transmission System Operators. The specialist is also involved in support for system restoration exercises. The incumbent provides training support and guidance to the organization that adheres to North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Continuing Education requirements.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)    $129,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)    $168,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)    $207,000.00

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develops programs to ensure transmissions operations personnel are trained per compliance requirements and work processes.
  • Project manages training initiatives, develops curriculum, and conducts instruction.
  • Creates delivery models, executes delivery, and tracks completion of training for compliance purposes.
  • Evaluates training monitoring systems and cost-effective options for training development and delivery.
  • Participates in industry forums to identify training and compliance best practices. May chair internal or external working groups on standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of regulatory compliance as it relates to training standards. Stays abreast of new tools being introduced in the line of business.
  • Develops processes for ensuring training is completed and a tracking mechanism to verify or prove training has taken place for audit purposes.
  • Supports tactical planning and scheduling in order to facilitate delivery of training.
  • May act as the NERC approved Continuing Education Administrator for PG&E.
  • May support initiatives, and/or provide detailed sets of instructions to execute Electric System Operations (ESO) work processes; conducts train the trainers and field classes.
  • May collaborate with the learning academy on delivery strategies for client groups.
  • May work with outside vendors for the development of Windows Based Training to meet regulatory training requirements.
  • Partners with and make recommendations to leadership to ensure the maintenance and accuracy of existing training programs.

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience including 2 years previous experience in one of the following:
    • System Dispatcher or Operator on an electric system.
    • Technical Training development & delivery
  • NERC System Operator Certification

 

Desired:

  • Knowledge of California and Federal regulatory requirements such as FERC, NERC/WECC, CPUC, CAISO and environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of Systemic Approach to Training and ADDIE Model
  • Knowledge of internal PG&E compliance standards.
  • Knowledge of transmission system operations, especially complex and/or emergency processes and tools
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, SharePoint and TGO Training applications
  • Excellent planning, scheduling, organization and coordination skills.
  • Strong presentation, training and communication skills;
  • Effective technical writing skills
  • Management skills to lead teams, promote employee engagement and influence others to achieve understanding, acceptance and commitment to act in support of ideas, programs or causes.
  • Ability to monitor, gather and analyze information, determine potential impacts, and recommend responses to challenges.
  • Experience as a Technical Instructor
  • Familiar with the Alstom operating systems and a second database that runs off of e-terra habitat or e- terra control SCADA.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills and effective communication skills.
  • Able to work at a rapid pace and handle large volumes of work with stringent deadlines. Capable of applying their knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory, interconnected system operation, operating criteria and problem solving.
