Department Overview

 Electric Operations ensure the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The Electric Operations Team is responsible for ensuring the electric grid's reliability and resiliency through the ongoing maintenance and operations of PG&E's 100,000 miles of distribution lines and over 18,000 miles of Transmission lines. Coworkers in Electric Operations actively engage in the Lean Methodology through the use of visual management in operating reviews to cross-functionally identify and solve problems and create standard work. Position Summary

This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective bargaining.

 

 An Electric Quality Control Specialist, Expert conducts field and desktop assessments on PG&E’s electric distribution and transmission facilities. These work assessments focus on verifying the quality of overhead (OH) and underground (UG) inspections as required by California Public Utility Commission Order (CPUC GO) 165. May be assigned to perform assessments on distribution or transmission facilities in the field or in an office as described in Letter Agreement 24-15.

 

Per Letter Agreement 24-15, Electric Quality Control Specialist are in 2-year lock commitment.

 

This position is subject to travel throughout PG&E Service territory with overnight stays based on the business needs of the role.

 

This position will be utilized to fill positions throughout PG&E Service territory in the North Coast, North Valley, Central, and Southern Regions that are headquartered in Chico, Tracy, and/or Lemoore subject to change on business needs.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $ 78.11 per hour.  This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

•Works independently, utilizing advanced knowledge of electric utility regulatory general orders to complete deep reviews and analysis, uncovers complex findings and root causes and prepares comprehensive recommendations for leadership.

•Works with division leaders on identifying root causes, trends, process improvements and implementing solutions.

•Provides assistance and coaching, including on the job training for Electric Quality Control Specialists. May handle questions regarding complex verification situations. Acts as a technical resource for PS&R.

•As assigned, validates quality of completed work by compliance inspectors using advanced knowledge of construction standards and general orders. May participate in, or facilitate, departmental special projects or initiatives.

•As assigned, validates the quality of work completed by Electric Quality Control Specialists, Senior and Expert.

•May participate in, or facilitate, post verification review meetings summarizing and presenting complex findings. Uses technology and communication skills to present appropriate content for target audience. Conveys findings and recommendations. Assists in, or develops, new methods for communicating issues, concerns, and best practices.

•May be assigned to perform additional audit, quality control and/or validation activities to support compliance with CPUC GO 165, 128 and 174 or to support other regulatory audit requirements.

•Understands, demonstrates, and coaches Electric Quality Control Specialists on all company and regulatory safety practices and requirements.

•Identifies, recommends, and assists in resolving gaps between external requirements and internal standards.

•Identifies, recommends, and assists in establishing new processes for emergent quality control audit requests.

•When necessary, may participate in tailboard discussions with Compliance Inspectors within all divisions.

•Assists in validating updates made to Call Book.

•Conduct quality control audits in Divisions where a Specialist has vacated.

•Leads and supports the development of training and onboarding initiatives for internal peers, senior specialists, and contract support.

•Identifies root causes, trends, process improvements and implementing solutions

•Due to the nature of the specialized services provided by the classification, will be required to travel in these assignments with overnight stays based on business needs.

•Ability to travel throughout PG&E Service territory in the North Coast, North Valley, Central, and Southern Regions.

 

 

Qualifications 

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Seven years of relevant utility industry experience such as, or similar to, a journeyman lineworker, electrician, system operator, or electrical engineer with an understanding of Distribution, Transmission, and Substation assets and inspection activities.
  • A valid California Class C Driver's License

 

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or job-related discipline
  • Experience in an electric Journey position, 5 years
  • Experience in electric maintenance and construction, or related, 7 years
  • Ability to travel throughout PG&E Service territory in the North Coast, North Valley, Central, and Southern Regions with overnight stays
  • ASQ-American Society for Quality CQA-Certified Quality Auditor certification
  • ASQ-American Society for Quality CQIA-Certified Quality Improvement Associate certification
  • Record of Electric Utility Apprentice Program training completion
  • QEW- Qualified Electrical Worker certification
