Department Overview
Power Generation operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 900 coworkers are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner. Our hydro facilities include 62 conventional hydro powerhouses, a pumped-storage facility, 98 reservoirs, 168 dams and more than 200 miles of canals and flumes, among other water conveyances. Natural gas-fired plants in operation are Humboldt Bay Generating Station in Eureka; Colusa Generating Station in Colusa County and Gateway Generating Station in Antioch. Several utility-scale solar generation plants also are operated and maintained, as well as PG&E’s successful entry into battery energy storage, our Elkhorn Battery facility at Moss Landing in Monterey County.
Position Summary
Responsible for the oversight and supervision of repair and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and auxiliary structures, systems, and equipment within PG&E’s Helms hydro electrical powerhouse and related facilities. Oversees reservoir release and fulfillment requirements, land usage rights, and development plans for Helms. Provides technical support to operations, engineering, construction, and project management regarding asset repair and maintenance at Helms. Ensures all maintenance work is timely and accurately completed and according to compliance standards and specifications.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
Minimum Base Salary (California) $ 137,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (California) $ 232,000.00
Job Responsibilities
- Oversees and supervises the repair and maintenance of all electrical, mechanical, and auxiliary equipment located within Helms hydro electrical powerhouses and related facilities.
- Oversees in-stream release requirements and develops reservoir draw down and fulfillment plans and strategies.
- Oversees land usage rights and external third-party development and encroachment plans and strategies.
- Supervises the coordination and communication of operational, quality assurance testing and reporting requirements.
- Provides technical support to operations, engineering, construction, and project management regarding asset repair and replacement strategies and plans.
- Provides expertise and support for the investigation and root causes of recordable, motor vehicle, near miss, and external third-party incidents and warnings; provides feedback to customers and develops resolutions to eliminate deficiencies.
- Ensures all maintenance work is timely and accurately completed and according to compliance standards and specifications.
- Identifies and develops recommendations for productivity improvements and executes corrective actions plans to decrease operating costs.
- Provides expertise, support, and conducts safety training for watershed personnel.
- Acts as a supportive representative for Helms Hydro Operations and Maintenance during regulatory inspections and provides support/expertise regarding inquiries for data/information, scheduling of operational exercises, and resolution of maintenance issues.
- Provides support to the communications with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regarding potential actions/impacts from regulatory relicensing and decommission projects, ecological and technical committees, and other proceedings and/or projects related to Helms hydro operations and maintenance.
- Assists with the monitoring, tracking and documentation of regulatory requirements related to hydro generation operations.
- Leads, promotes, fosters and advances the establishment of a safety and non-accident culture.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- High School or General Educational Development-GED Diploma
- 5 years of experience in hydro operations, maintenance, engineering, or related field
- Work is divided between field and office environment with extensive use of personal computers, telephone conversations, conference calls and in-person meetings.
- Will need to climb up and down stairs and ladders, traverse over rocky, uneven, and steep terrain, and drive on narrow and rough mountain roads in inclement weather.
Desired:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or another related field
- Professional Engineering (PE) license with specifications and design standards in electrical, mechanical, civil, civil construction, or civil: water resources and environmental
- Experience within electrical, mechanical, hydro telecommunications (i.e.: information technology), hydrographic (i.e.: water) maintenance and civil construction
- Experience with Power Generation operations, maintenance, and repair
- Experience with land usage rights, construction, and development plans and strategies
- Supervisory or management experience
- Knowledge of Power Generation Operation and Maintenance Standards and Guidelines and associated regulatory requirements.
- Ability to manage operation and maintenance activities within authorized budget and metrics.
- Knowledge of Powerhouse equipment and auxiliary systems, including knowledge of multiple crafts including electrical/mechanical, civil works, telecommunications, and controls/protection systems.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, electrical and mechanical arrangement drawings.
- Skilled in troubleshooting simple and complex systems and equipment.
- Knowledge of Powerhouse and Water Conveyance protection schemes and equipment.
- Knowledge of Work Management systems, including planning and scheduling, and documenting work performed.
