Department Overview 

Gas Control supports the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The organization supports PG&E's gas transmission and distribution operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response. 

 

Within Gas Control, Control Room Management Operations & Engineering provides technical expertise and develops operational plans, processes, procedures and training that support the Gas Control Center. The team helps maintain compliance with 49 CFR 192.631, the federal Control Room Management Rule, and CPUC General Order 112-F, while using industry benchmarking and best practices to reduce operational risk. 

 

This is a dynamic engineering environment where priorities evolve with operating conditions, technology changes, emergency needs and regulatory requirements. The workgroup brings together diverse professional backgrounds and perspectives across engineering, operations, human factors, risk management, emergency preparedness, training and process improvement. Team members collaborate extensively with Gas Control personnel, field operations, Gas Engineering, maintenance and construction, emergency management, technology, regulatory compliance and other enterprise functions. 

 

 

Position Summary 

The Senior Gas Engineer provides technical leadership and engineering expertise in support of Transmission and Distribution Gas Control. The role assesses operational risk and human factors, strengthens alarm management and change management practices, supports abnormal and emergency operations thereby enhancing critical business continuity work processes, and develops durable operational improvements. 

The successful candidate will lead moderate to complex work with limited direction, translate technical and operational information into practical recommendations, and work across organizational boundaries to improve safety, compliance, reliability, resilience and operating effectiveness. The position may also lead teams or initiatives involving technical documentation, training, quality assurance, investigations, technology changes and abnormal or emergency operations. The position may require approximately 10% travel, including travel to industry meetings and conferences. 

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.  

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ 

 

A reasonable salary range is:​ 

Bay Area Minimum: $​128,000 

Bay Area Maximum: $​218,000 

 

  

Job Responsibilities 

  • Performs moderate to complex engineering work and projects 

  • Expands knowledge in other areas of specialty or discipline, developing breadth or further develops expertise and specialization on one area. 

  • Provides engineering and technical solutions by using existing tools, methods, approaches and tactics in new ways or by modifying and improving them. 

  • Evaluates methodologies, best practices, tools, processes, procedures and technology assessing potential fit, benefits, and impacts for engineering work and projects assigned 

  • Presents engineering research, findings solutions and recommendations to leadership 

  • Works independently under limited direction and guidance 

  • May provide training, guidance, instruction and coaching to other Engineers 

  

Qualifications 

Minimum: 

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience 

  •  Job-related experience, 5 years 

Desired: 

  •  Masters Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience 

  • Experience in gas distribution industry, job-related 

  • Experience in gas transmission, or related 

  • PE-Professional Engineer license 

  • Proficiency in Change Management, Lean Management System or Gas Control Room Management Program Management
