Electric Operations ensures the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. The Electric Operations Team is responsible for ensuring the electric grid's reliability and resiliency through the ongoing maintenance and operations of PG&E's 100,000 miles of distribution lines and over 18,000 miles of Transmission lines. Position Summary
The Principal Continuous Improvement Consultant – Electric Transmission and Distribution will spearhead PG&E’s most critical initiatives by driving process optimization and organizational transformation. This role is responsible for leading complex, high-visibility projects through advanced, complex problem solving, value stream mapping, implementing robust change management strategies, and building enterprise-wide capabilities. The consultant will deliver high-impact solutions that foster sustainable improvements, elevate organizational maturity, and ensure alignment with PG&E’s strategic objectives and executive direction. Additionally, this position will lead and coordinate multiple cross-functional, enterprise-level initiatives to achieve measurable business outcomes.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory (Oakland, but HQ may be subject to change based on business need).
Position will require approximately 25% of travel time in work schedule.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum:$136,000
Bay Area Maximum:$232,000
This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Job Responsibilities
• Lead complex enterprise-level initiatives— process improvement, process management, change management and business case scoping using:
Facilitates meetings at all levels of the enterprise.
Works closely with and advises leaders at all levels, including officers.
Mentors and coaches Associate through Expert level on practices and tools.
• Lead the identification of recommendations to optimize opportunities and develop initiative solutions.
• Integrate initiative activities within and across LOBs.
• Work on complex non-routine problems that require in-depth analysis and judgment to drive business results and solutions.
• Work with clients to develop CI capabilities within their LOB.
• Act as a thought leader, applying extensive unique subject matter expertise in the development of strategy or resolution of complex issues.
• Demonstrate a high level of business acumen and energy industry expertise.
• Mentor other staff in the development of subject matter expertise, growing knowledge in practice areas, relationship development, and strategy for resolution of complex issues
Qualifications-
Education Minimum:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Process Improvement Orientation: Engineering, mathematics, statistics, or other technical degrees and/or Change Orientation: Human Resources, change management, communications, organization development, or related field
Education Desired:
• Master of Business Administration; Engineering, mathematics, statistics, or other technical degrees
• Master’s degree in organizational Change, Development, or a similar discipline
Experience Minimum:
• Requires 10 years of relevant experience in the areas of: Business Strategy, Organization Change, PMO, Program/Project Management, or Operations Management
Experience Desired:
• Proven ability to develop and manage senior executive relationships within complex organizations.
• Demonstrated leadership in functional, industry, or business areas, both directly and indirectly.
• Skilled in guiding executive decisions using business intelligence, including quantitative and qualitative analysis, customer and employee assessments, process and performance analysis, business case development, risk and gap analysis, and readiness assessments.
• Track record of leading strategic projects and initiatives with measurable outcomes, collaborating across organizational boundaries and engaging senior executives.
• Extensive knowledge of improvement and change management methodologies to enhance initiative performance, measure business benefits, ensure organizational readiness, and achieve strategic goals.
• Trained in Value Stream Mapping
• California utility experience
Desired License/Certification:
• Process Management Certification (Lean, Lean Six-Sigma, Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent) and/or Change Management Certification (expert level) and/or Project Management Certification (expert level)
Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and (Technical) Competencies:
• Ability to work within deadlines and be flexible with changing priorities.
• Strong communication skills – both written and verbal – with the ability to communicate effectively to technical and non-technical team members, as well as executive through field level positions within the company.
