Position Summary
Leads teams of employees to support in testing and commissioning protection and control systems in the service territory as it relates to the transmission lines or substations. Establishes correct maintenance and construction practices for protection and control equipment. Oversees protection system, the testing of the system, and the associated documentation to meet compliance.
The selected candidate must live within PG&E’s service territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $151,000.00
Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $204,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $257,000.00
Minimum Base Salary (California) $143,000.00
Mid Base Salary (California) $194,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (California) $244,000.00
Job Responsibilities
- Assesses complex field situations and makes decisions/recommendations for solution. Recommends best practices to subordinate staff, and overrides unsafe decisions in a practical, tactical way.
- Effectively manages staff/team(s) through recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and rewards and recognition.
- Ensures a high customer satisfaction result by always keeping the customer needs at the forefront of decision making.
- Ensures Substation Test work is completed on time, within budget and to quality expectations while adhering to safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ensures that training is completed and properly documented.
- Establishes assessment systems and monitors activities to ensure compliance with established procedures.
- Identifies safety issues and communicates those issues under high pressure, time restricted situations to the customer.
- Identify and influence implementation of best practices to improve productivity and reduce operating costs. Develop and implement actions which improve and support system reliability.
- Manages large capital and operating expense budgets to ensure work identified in the Operating Plan is completed and unit cost targets are achieved.
- May oversee Asset Strategy group for respective area of Electric Operations.
- May oversee contract development including scope, pricing, contract structure, and incentives, in partnership with the Contract Planning department.
- May oversee Engineering Construction and Contract Supervision and Inspection for respective area of Electric Operations.
- Partners with employees and union representatives to enhance employee satisfaction.
- Partners with peers, staff departments, matrix organizations and outside agencies to improve overall business results.
- Proactively prepares for emergency situations; supports company efforts during emergency situations; communicates deficiencies in emergency response/preparedness; resolves issues quickly and efficiently using the correct resources.
- Supervises 15-20 direct reports including Supervisors, Clerks, and Specialists. 115- 130 indirect reports including IBEW Technicians and Test Specialists.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Management, or Project Management or related degree or equivalent related experience in installation and maintenance of protection and control equipment in Substation.
- 10 years of experience in the electric utility industry including 5 years’ experience in Protection and Control Testing.
- 5 years’ experience in leadership.
Desired:
- Experience as System Engineer
- PE-Professional Engineer license
