Position Summary

The Hazard Awareness and Warning Center (HAWC) is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The HAWC serves as a “hub” from which Analysts detect, monitor and analyze threats across the company’s service area and alert Functional Areas and internal partners to respond to any emerging threats to communities, customers, coworkers and company infrastructure. The Hazard Safety Analysts perform real-time detection and monitoring of conditions by leveraging information from on-the-ground field teams, PG&E Meteorology tools, live video and audio feeds, as well as databases, emergency alert systems and social media from CAL FIRE, the National Weather Service, local public safety authorities and other agencies and systems. 

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned location based on business need.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

 

Bay Area –  $49.04 - $69.81 per hour

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Monitors for wildfires throughout the state that may pose a threat to PG&E infrastructure and communities
  • Monitors for Land movement activity including debris flows, land/mud slides, earthquakes, avalanches and tsunamis
  • Monitors for Geomagnetic storm events caused by sunspot activity
  • Monitors the territory for flood advisories and warnings during storm events
  • Provides situational awareness to company leadership and other Functional Areas and internal partners
  • Supports Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations for Public Safety Power Shutoffs & other activations as needed
  • Works closely with field resources (PG&E Public Safety Specialists) to share information and validate hazards and risks
  • Supports 24/7/365 staffing 
  • Provides HAWC situational updates during group meetings and/or calls
  • Trains, mentors and on-boards new analysts
  • Executes special projects and/or initiatives

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • Job-related experience, 4 years
  • Requires availability for working in a 24x7 watch center environment that includes shift work

 

Desired:

 

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering-Fire Protection and Safety or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience with GIS-Geographic Information Systems
  • Experience in training
  • Utility industry experience, electric or gas
  • Experience in generating effective results and deliverables within dynamic, ambiguous and fast-paced environment
  • Experience in public safety agency
  • Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior S-290 certification
  • NWCG-National Wildfire Coordinating Group S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior Certification
  • ICS-Incident Command System 100 certification
  • IS-230.D Fundamentals of Emergency Management certification
