Department Overview

 

Gas Engineering is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers.  As a part of Gas Engineering, Gas Transmission Engineering is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas transmission asset family, including integrity management, pipeline services, threat identification and assessment scoping, process safety, and project engineering and design.  The Gas Transmission Engineering and Design group (GTED), part of the Gas Transmission Engineering organization, is focused on providing the technical direction and design of gas transmission pipeline projects and supporting the execution of the work in the field.  The group also provides technical review and approval of project documentation post construction to ensure company records are updated accurately and reflect the scope of work performed.  The Design and Drafting group within GTED is responsible for updating record drawings of facilities based on the as-found or as-built condition at the conclusion of the work. 

 

Position Summary

 

This position is responsible for supervising and leading the Design Drafting team within GTED. This role includes reviewing all incoming work, establishing schedules, assigning work to the drafters and records team, and working with the project management, Plant and Pipeline Engineering teams, workstream supervisors to ensure project documents are completed in time to meet As-Built Records Duration Index (ARDI) metric requirements.  This position is responsible for leading a team of Drafters to update the drawings as well as the records team to manage the custody of all record drawings passing through the department.

 

The successful candidate will approve project scopes, provide guidance during all necessary aspects of the project lifecycle, ensure that team members meet the project objectives, ensure that projects are completed on time. The candidate must work across multiple Gas Operations organizations including Plant and Pipeline Engineering, Asset Management, System Operations, T&D Operations, T&D Construction.

 

Position Duties (may include but are not limited to)-

 

  • Mentor, coach, and develop a high level of expertise in the gas transmission and distribution station design drafting team.
  • Provide guidance on all station, design, construction as well as post-construction processes by: participating in business strategy teams and process improvement teams to develop improved processes and procedures. Continuously identifying opportunities to implement lean strategies.
  • Proactively identifies and controls safety issues that may arise for this work group. Coordinates, and leads safety discussions and training sessions.
  • Provides leadership by communicating business goals to workgroup on a regular basis.
  •  Involves employees in addressing issues, which affect them; and follows through on commitments.
  • Fosters positive internal relationships by facilitating work of others; look for process improvements, and enthusiastically contributes to the team.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments/divisions to share resources and best practices.
  • Ensures timeliness, efficiency and responsiveness to internal customers' requests. Ensures quality and consistency of the products.
  • Provides leadership to the Design Drafting and Records As-Built group
  • Attracts and retains skilled and appropriate staffing levels to meet department objectives.
  • Takes ownership and effective appropriate actions to address issues for energized employees.
  • Recruit/select, communicate expectations, foster employee engagement, coach, develop, mentor, recognize and reward employees in order to drive performance and results. Manages Represented Union employees

 

 

The successful candidate is also expected to actively coach and manage employee development, review and manage contracts for engineering service providers (ESP), monitor team productivity and performance, and represent design drafting on cross functional committees for process improvements, etc. 

 

The incumbent will be required to travel to remote PG&E offices and job sites to participate in project meetings and construction reviews (5-15% travel required with potential for overnight stays).

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory (San Ramon, CA).

 

Incumbent should expect to travel to San Ramon, CA for projects, meetings, trainings, etc.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

A reasonable salary range is:

 

Bay Area Minimum:$128,000

Bay Area Maximum:$218,000

 

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Qualifications-

 

Minimum: 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 5 years of relevant experience

 

Desired:

  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Experience working in or with PG&E’s gas engineering and design department.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent

  • Technical Knowledge & Expertise:
  • Knowledge of ASME drafting standard and Geometric dimensioning and Tolerance
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D AutoCAD (Plant and Civil 3D) and MicroStation
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiar with compliance requirements for represented and non-represented employees
