Position Summary

 

This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective bargaining.

 

Provisional Journeyman – Distribution Gas System Operator is one who will be expected to successfully complete their training to become a qualified Journeyman Operator. Must comply with PHMSA Control Room Management Regulation, 49 CFR 192.631. A Distribution Gas System operator monitors the gas distribution system, is a safety champion, has a high level of analytical skills and is trained to recognize an Abnormal Operating Condition (AOC), do an analysis of pressure trends and make a callout to the field. Ability to recognize both audible and visual alarms is a requirement of the position. Gas Control monitors the entire service territory for PG&E so we handle many emergencies daily and are highly trained in emergency response. You will work in a control room with a high level of technology that is recognized industry wide.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $67.86 per hour.  This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.  

 

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

•  Have a safety-first mindset in a heavily regulated industry

•  Monitor the Gas Distribution system and respond to Scada alarms

•  Identify abnormal operating conditions and respond in a timely manner

•  Work well with others in an emergency-based control room environment

•  Multi-task and maintain situational awareness

•  Acknowledge, perform analysis and respond to alarms

•  Perform necessary callouts and issue field maintenance work requests

•  Document and execute routine and emergency gas clearances

•  Be an effective communicator, utilize phonetic alphabet and 3-way communication

•  Gather information, process data and follow procedures

•  Provide a detailed description of what you are seeing on SCADA to the field over the phone

•  Take appropriate actions during emergency situation

•  Maintain records to ensure compliance with regulatory partners

•  Utilize multiple forms of technology

•  Work 12 hour rotating shifts, Days, Nights, Weekends and Holidays, modified DuPont with built in relief schedules

•  Maintain up to date training requirements and certifications 

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

  • No education requirement, for internal applicants; High School or GED-General Educational Development Diploma, for external applicants
  • Ability to pass federally mandated random drug and alcohol testing
  • Ability to work at alternate gas control locations
  • Ability to work shift schedule

 

Desired:

  • Previous shift work experience, including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Experience with SAP and Microsoft Office Applications
  • Analytical skills, ability to interpret data and trends
  • Predictive and proactive approach
  • Able to multi-task and work well with others
  • Emergency Operations experience in a call center, control room or dispatch center
  • To better represent the communities we serve within a timely manner, applicants who live within 50 miles of the headquarter location will be given preference
