Department Overview
Gas Engineering is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a part of Gas Engineering, Gas Transmission Engineering is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas transmission asset family, including integrity management, pipeline services, threat identification and assessment scoping, process safety, and project engineering and design. The Gas Transmission Engineering and Design group (GTED), part of the Gas Transmission Engineering organization, is focused on providing the technical direction and design of gas transmission pipeline projects and supporting the execution of the work in the field. The group also provides technical review and approval of project documentation post construction to ensure company records are updated accurately and reflect the scope of work performed. The Design and Drafting group within GTED is responsible for updating record drawings of facilities based on the as-found or as-built condition at the conclusion of the work.
Position Summary
The Business System Specialist is instrumental in driving the digital transformation of the Gas Transmission Engineering and Design department. Acting as a strategic liaison between the Records team and Engineering groups, this role supports the seamless progression of engineering jobs through the transmission pipeline and facility project lifecycle. The Specialist will support efforts to effectively integrate 3D modeling into project workflows and ensure that completed models and project deliverables are available for use across teams and stakeholders. They will be responsible for documenting organizational standards and guidelines applicable to 2D and 3D projects and drive process improvements, including managing record check-in/check-out protocols, and ensuring data integrity across engineering systems. The Specialist will also actively manage SAP tasks, facilitate cross-functional collaboration, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance compliance, operational efficiency, and design innovation.
Position will require approximately 10-15% of travel time in work schedule.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory (San Ramon).
Position Duties May Include But Are Not Limited To-
3D Modeling & Design Support
- Provide support on how to improve project processes through the incorporation of 3D models.
- Provide support for AutoCAD-related inquiries and offer guidance to designers and drafters, including assistance with Autodesk resources and materials.
- Manage and update libraries of 2D blocks and 3D components, verifying consistency and readiness for design application.
- Manage 3D models to support concurrent engineering efforts and version control.
- Work alongside engineers and designers to drive innovative design solutions.
- Evaluate and refine current design processes, introducing new tools and methodologies.
- Create and maintain job aids, guidelines, and documentation pertaining to records management and processes.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support change management efforts.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to streamline data flows between engineering, operations, and IT systems.
- Perform validation of 2D and 3D model packages, coordinate multidisciplinary review workflows, and supervise the finalization of project outputs.
Business Systems & Data Integration
- Assist with check-in and check-out process modifications to improve workflow efficiency and data integrity.
- Track and resolve kickbacks, coordinating with engineering and drafting teams.
- Coordinate SAP tasks related to drawing custody, work order management, and asset tracking.
- Maintain and enhance existing Power BI dashboards to support Gas Transmission metrics and performance tracking, with a focus on data integrity and usability rather than new development.
- Submit and track scanning requests; verify metadata accuracy and proper indexing in systems such as ProjectWise, Documentum, and DocuTrak.
- Utilize SharePoint for project Record tracking and provide feedback on opportunities for improvement in records management
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum:$80,000
Bay Area Maximum:$120,000
This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Job Responsibilities
• Handle moderately complex user issues that arise with supported systems and tools. Address most calls independently, escalates the more complex problems to senior peers.
• Analyze and document moderate complexity business processes and information needs.
• Coordinate requirements and deliverables with IT/Lead BSS.
• Provide timely and professional responses to IT or user inquiries. Escalate as appropriate.
• Participate on teams that develop requirements for the business needs solution.
• Contribute to business case development.
• Participate in UATs and perform quality reviews of test results.
• May perform various additional activities, such as user based application testing, scope presentations, user support, etc.
• May be mentored by a Senior BSS (business system specialist).
• Analyze and propose solutions with some supervision.
Qualifications-
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Business, Engineering, Computer Science/Information Systems, or equivalent work experience
- 2 years of experience in similar or related job functions (Business, IT or Engineering fields) that could be substituted by an advanced degree.
- Continuous education in IT and business specific areas.
Desired Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in Business Analysis and/or Information Technology
- 2+ years of experience with Bluebeam and Studio Sessions
- 2+ years of 3D drafting experience (Plant 3D, Civil 3D, and object creation)
- Experience with SAP workflow management and document control systems (e.g., ProjectWise, Documentum, DocuTrak, SharePoint)
- 2 + years of experience in Power BI
- 4+ years of experience reading construction drawings/redlines
- Experience with AutoDesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and/or Vault
