Department Overview

 

Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers.

As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

 

This is an IBEW Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing  employees at PG&E.

 

The Pipeline Inspector is a qualified Company representative who may perform all of the duties of the Construction Inspector and Utility Construction Inspector as described below and in addition, may provide direct oversight of transmission and larger or more complex distribution construction projects involving steel or plastic pipe.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $68.71 per hour.  This wage rate is specific to the locality of the job. The wage rate is based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. 

 

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Perform Visual Inspection of welds & materials. Track welds and piping materials.
  • Performs the duties of the test supervisor on pipe strength tests. Oversees the execution of the hydro-test procedures.
  • Performs oversight and Strength Test Pressure Record sign-off functions for strength testing of piping assemblies on small jobs of less than 100 feet of pipeline.
  • Performs Quality Control for pre-testing of pipe, small valve assemblies, ILI (In-Line-Inspections) assemblies, tie-in pieces, etc., of less than 100 feet in length and of a test duration of 1, 4, or 8 hours.
  • Witnesses and signs-off on all hydro test procedure hold points.
  • Performs the duties of the test supervisor on pipe strength tests.
  • Provides direct oversight of transmission and larger or more complex distribution construction projects involving steel or plastic pipe.
  • May also perform Quality Control for pre-testing of pipe, small valve assemblies, In-Line-Inspections, assemblies, tie-in-pieces, etc., of less than 100 feet in length and of a test duration of 1,4, or 8 hours.
  • DOT-Operations/Maintenance AND Emergency
  • Have a working knowledge of applicable American Petroleum Institute (API), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) codes and standards.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) in API 1104 Certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid AWS API 1169 Certification.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid NACE Level 1 and Level II Certification.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

 

• Must be at least 18 years of age.

• Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.

• Must possess a valid California Driver's License.

• Must possess and maintain a valid AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) in API 1104 Certification.

• Must possess and maintain a current National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) Level 1 and Level 2 certification.

• Must possess and maintain API 1169 Certification.

• Ability to work in all types of weather extremes.

• Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions.

• Ability to pass federally mandated random drug and alcohol testing

• Knowledge of mechanical engineering theories, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job level

• Ability to apply quality management systems and quality assurance and control theories, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques - for example ISO 91 system - as needed to perform at the job level

• Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

• Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

•Ability to travel and transfer to a new headquarter upon request at any time; throughout the entire PG&E service territory with no guarantees on how long you will be assigned away from your base headquarters.

 

Desired:

 

• Minimum of 3 year of welding inspection experience on PG&E Gas Transmission Projects.

• Relevant current or past work experience with PG&E and/or Hiring Hall.

• To better represent the communities we serve within a timely manner, applicants who live within 50 miles of the headquarter location will be given preference.
