Department Overview

 

The Electric Operations team ensures the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

 

This job is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC), subject to collective bargaining.

 

An Electric Field Engineer contributes technical and engineering services for General Construction and field personnel on construction jobs. During initial assignments, the Field Engineer may be required to learn and perform all the duties of a Field Engineering Technician and Senior Field Engineering Technician. With experience, assignments will expand to require supervision of Foreman, other Field Engineers, Field Engineering Technicians, Senior Field Engineering Technicians, and other similar field personnel.  An essential function of this role will be to complete electric pre-construction evaluations to ensure constructability at work sites. This will include performing field construction assessments, and coordination with other utilities, and departments. SAP tracking, scheduling and project review to ensure compliance with construction standards and practices. Manage plan to actual charging and project scope milestones.

 

This position will work in both the field and office capacities, with occasional storm duty or storm response required. Travel within PG&E’s service territory at any time with little notice may be required.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity.

 

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the hourly rate range for this position is $49.30 to $73.88, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Recommend and approve changes in construction drawings or specifications.
  • Coordinate engineering work between operating Divisions and General Construction.
  • Solve simple and complex engineering problems.
  • Make engineering studies and analysis.
  • Layout construction plans.
  • May be required to perform duties as an assistant supervisor when size of project requires.
  • Direct the activities of employees or crews on job assignments requiring construction engineering expertise.
  • Audit work under construction for current construction standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Develop Project timelines and milestones; perform scheduling and forecasting.
  • Support construction supervisor and foreman by providing technical and engineering expertise in the construction of the project.
  • Inspects and monitors the work of contractors to assure compliance with specifications and plans.
  • Supervises foreman, other field engineers, field engineering technicians, senior field engineering technicians and other similar field personnel.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management OR 2 years of experience and supplemental education* which establishes the ability to perform essential job duties
  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License or the ability to obtain one by first day of employment
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, extended hours, nights, weekends, and/or overtime (scheduled or ad hoc)

 

*Supplemental education is defined as a minimum of 30 quarter or 20 semester units of coursework from an accredited college emphasizing science and engineering such as those listed with a mix of no less than three areas (transcripts needed for verification): Physics, Principles of Electricity, Chemistry, Statics, Surveying, Dynamics, Math (including trigonometry and basic calculus); or EIT

 

Desired:

 

  • Construction experience
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Advanced in Microsoft Excel and/or database skills
  • Experience in contracting, Contract Work Authorization (CWA) and Contract Change Order creation
  • Experience in electric clearance submittals to Distribution Operations (Application For Work, AFW)
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate
  • AutoCAD or hand draft skills, preferably both
  • Experience with Construction Surveying
