State Government Relations Intern

 

Department Overview

The State Government Relations Team (SGR) is responsible for working with the California Legislature and Governor’s Administration to educate and promote policies and issues of impact to PG&E, its workers, its customers, and other core Company operations.   

 

The Stakeholder Engagement and Advocacy Team serve as a central convenor to further the company’s enterprise-wide engagement and advocacy efforts. Members of this team work within a matrixed, cross-functional environment with team members in government relations, regulatory affairs, communications and other external-facing teams across the company.

 

Position Summary

The State Government Relations Intern is a motivated and detail-oriented college intern who will support our State Government Relations and Stakeholder Engagement teams. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in legislative processes, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement. The intern will support our team in various tasks, contributing to the advancement of our legislative priorities and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders.

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

The hourly rate for an undergraduate degree the hourly range is $19.91 to $26.02 an hour.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring, recommending and analyzing legislative developments and policy changes.
  • Conduct research on relevant legislative issues and prepare briefing materials.
  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and other communication materials.
  • Attend legislative hearings, meetings, and events, and provide summaries and insights.
  • Help coordinate stakeholder meetings and engagements.
  • Maintain and update stakeholder databases and contact lists.
  • Assist in drafting correspondence and other documents for internal and external communication.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the office's operations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled full time at an accredited college or university. Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Political Science, Public Administration or a related field. Students must be returning back to school Fall 2025 as a full-time student.
  • Prior experience or internships in State or local government, legislative affairs or public policy organizations.
  • Students must be in current good academic standing.
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license by time of internship.

  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Prior internships in State or local government, legislative affairs or public policy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Travel on an as needed basis to meetings, conferences, and other events.
