Department Overview 

 

The Visual Management & Insight Services team supports Electric Risk & Compliance by ensuring information is communicated clearly, consistently, and strategically across the Electric organization. In a complex and regulated utility environment, effective communication plays a critical role in alignment, awareness, and execution. 

 

Our team focuses on helping stakeholders understand priorities, expectations, and context through clear messaging, structured communication cadence, and thoughtful engagement. 

 

 

Position Summary 

 

The Communications, Strategic Engagement & Change Support Internship is designed for someone who brings strong communication skills, positive energy, and a collaborative mindset. This role supports Electric Risk & Compliance by helping plan, create, and deliver clear, consistent, and well structured communications that keep stakeholders informed and aligned. 

 

In addition to supporting ongoing communications such as newsletters, updates, and presentation materials, this role supports management of change efforts by helping ensure messaging is clear, coordinated, and easy to understand as processes, tools, or priorities evolve. 

 

This role also provides exposure to AI enabled tools and techniques, where the intern will help explore opportunities to automate and enhance recurring reporting and communication activities, improving efficiency, consistency, and timeliness while maintaining message quality and clarity. 

 

This position is hybrid with the expectation of working in PG&E’s General Office in downtown Oakland, CA approximately 1-3 days per week. 

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including skills, education, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 

 

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $20.88 to $34.07. 

 

 

Responsibilities 

 

Strategic Communications & Engagement 

  • Support development of internal communications for Electric Risk & Compliance 
  • Help create and maintain newsletters, recurring updates, and announcements 
  • Draft clear, concise, and engaging written content for a variety of audiences 
  • Translate technical, compliance, or analytical information into easy to understand messages 
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and inclusive tone across all communications 

Management of Change Support 

  • Support change management communications related to evolving processes, tools, or expectations 
  • Help ensure messaging clearly explains context, purpose, and relevance to stakeholders 
  • Assist with reinforcing key messages over time so information is understood and retained 
  • Support alignment and consistency across communication channels as updates roll out 

AI Enabled Communications & Automation 

  • Explore and apply AI enabled tools to support automation of existing and emerging recurring reporting and communication outputs 
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort in communication workflows while preserving clarity, accuracy, and appropriate tone 
  • Partner with analysts and communication leads to ensure AI supported outputs align with stakeholder needs and governance expectations 
  • Help document and refine AI supported communication approaches for repeatable use 

Messaging Consistency & Cadence 

  • Support a consistent communication cadence so stakeholders know when and where to expect updates 
  • Help ensure messages are aligned across channels and audiences 
  • Reinforce key themes and priorities through regular, structured communications 
  • Help keep information visible and accessible—not just shared once 

Stakeholder Enablement 

  • Partner with analysts, leaders, and team members to gather content and key messages 
  • Help prepare presentation materials, summaries, FAQs, and talking points 
  • Support communications for leadership forums and regular updates 
  • Act as a bridge between technical teams and broader audiences by focusing on clarity and relevance 

Content Coordination & Quality 

  • Help manage communication calendars and recurring deliverables 
  • Ensure consistency in messaging, terminology, and formatting 
  • Support editing, proofreading, and quality checks 
  • Keep communications organized and easy to reference 
  • Continuously improve content based on feedback and engagement 

 

Travel may be required; frequency depends on the assignment and is typically less than 10%. 

 

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards degree during and/or after the internship
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work location
