Summary: The Supervisor, EMS Advanced Applications is responsible for providing technical leadership to a team of engineers and technology experts as they provide high quality situational awareness and power system analytical tools to Operators and Dispatchers who safely, reliably, and efficiently manage one of the largest and most complex transmission grids in North America. The Supervisor will be an EMS advanced applications subject matter expert and will continue to contribute technically on projects and day-to-day activities. This role is responsible for key components of a 24x7x365 utilized system and must be ready to support the entire EMS team in resolving issues and maintaining a high level of quality and availability of the EMS and the Advanced Applications used by PG&E.
The selected candidate must live within PG&E’s service territory and will be required to work in the office a minimum of two days a week (sometimes four days, depending on business needs)
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is: Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $147,000.00 Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $199,000.00 Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $251,000.00
Minimum Base Salary (California) $140,000.00 Mid Base Salary (California) $189,000.00 Maximum Base Salary (California) $238,000.00
Responsibilities:

- Work closely with the EMS vendor and other technology vendors to provide project requirements, support technical documentation, lead software testing, and generally facilitate the software implementation process.
- Interact effectively with external entities (CAISO, RC West, WECC, etc.) by supporting industry initiatives and providing subject matter expertise to these entities or their committees.
- Coach, develop, and lead the EMS Advanced Applications team to achieve the department goals and the individual team member goals and development objectives.
- Provide technical expertise for the design, procurement and implementation of Energy Management System applications and development of interfaces to external systems, databases, and applications.
- Implement new technologies needed to support an evolving grid, including but not limited to voltage stability, transient stability, oscillation detection, and transmission voltage optimization.
- Responsible for overall quality of EMS Advanced Applications and their continued high availability. Support EMS team on-call processes and be a backup to team members as needed.
- Contributes to group financial performance by monitoring budget, controlling costs, and reviewing expenses.
- Work as a strong team member and collaborator with other Operations teams (SCADA, EMS Integration, EMS Displays, Operations Engineering, Transmission Grid Operations, etc).
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Five years in an engineering, IT, or other relevant capacity.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or related field or equivalent experience.
Desired:
- Seven years experience as a user or in support roles for real-time EMS advanced applications including modeling, state estimator, contingency analysis, and real-time assessments.
- Knowledge of California and Federal regulatory requirements such as Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), NERC, WECC, California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), RC West, and CAISO.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Experience with Electric Transmission System Operations
- Extensive knowledge of the GEV Grid Solutions EMS
- Experience with GEV Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS)
- Master’s Degree in Power system
- Twelve+ years experience in engineering, IT, or other relevant capacity.
- Working knowledge of General Electric Vernova (GEV) e-terra EMS applications and databases.
