Position Summary:

Join a high-performing, and dynamic team shaping the future of PG&E’s electrical grid – delivering reliably, safe, affordable, and clean energy to our customers and communities.  The Grid Operations, Applications, and Transformation (GOAT) team is dedicated to implementing and maintaining PG&E’s Operational Technology including the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), which is fundamental to a sustainable energy future and the Grid of Tomorrow. 

 

The SCADA Engineer will support GOAT’s SCADA Product Owner, across a wide range of ADMS-based solutions, including SCADA, OMS, and Distribution Advance Applications. This role will also collaborate closely with GOAT’s Business Support team-coordinating tasks, resolving defects, and ensuring best-in-class real-time ADMS support.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)            $102,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)        $132,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)           $162,000.00

 

  • Minimum Base Salary (California)         $97,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (California)      $125,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (California)        $154,000.00

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Supports system design and testing activities aligned with the product vision set by the Product Owners. 
  • Performs technical evaluations to incorporate new devices and capabilities that evolves the technical vision.
  • Creating new technical standards that support future needs while driving system standardization. 
  • Makes tradeoffs among technical options to balance execution, support, and vendor risk.
  • Makes tradeoffs among technical options for a portfolio of products.
  • Assesses system failures, identifying root cause, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Provides data queries and reports to inform Grid Operations.

 

The SCADA Engineer work will involve:

  • Implementation of SCADA Product Owner’s design standards throughout the SCADA System.
  • Integration of new Substation and Field Automation Device solutions with PG&E’s ADMS platform
  • SCADA telemetry monitoring and configurations
  • Overseeing FEP operations and management. 
  • Support Advanced Application (i.e., OMS, FLISR, EPP, VVO, etc.) development with SCADA expertise

 

The successful candidate should have experience with Grid Operations practices and the corresponding support systems, an understanding of SCADA and ADMS systems, and a high technical understanding of the Electrical Distribution System. 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of electric utility related experience
  • Experience with grid modeling software (e.g. CYMDIST, PSLF, Aspen, etc)

 

Desired:

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and collaboration skills.
  • 3–7+ years of experience with SCADA, control systems, or real-time operational technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of DNP3, Modbus, 2179 PG&E, IEC 61850 or similar protocols.
  • Experience with ADMS platforms (Schneider Electric preferred) including device modeling, application behavior, and CU/HF deployment processes.
  • Hands-on experience with grid automation devices (S&C, SEL, Siemens, etc.).
  • Proficiency in analyzing telemetry data, communication logs, network models, and system events.
  • Has product support experience.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with electric system topology.
  • Understanding of FEP architectures, communication circuits, and polling strategies.
  • Working level understanding of Agile values and principals
  • Experience working in a cross-functional, highly matrixed environment
  • Familiarity with key Electric Operations systems such as GIS, DMS, OMS, etc.
  • Knowledge of distribution equipment
  • Experience working with the following tools: Jira, MS Excel, Foundry, Power BI
  • Programming with SQL, Python, C#, etc.
