Department Overview

PG&E’s Underground Program organization is working to reduce wildfire risk each day as we underground 10,000 miles of distribution lines. We are responsible for working across all internal teams and engaging external stakeholders to support successfully meeting our goals and reducing wildfire risk in our hometowns. We work in an exciting and fast-paced environment.

 

Position Summary

Leads teams of construction-managers in the restoration after undergrounding the existing distribution overhead system in high fire threat areas.  Provides safe and reliable electric service while maintaining compliance with the California Public Utility Commission General Orders, all Safety regulations, and other regulatory requirements. Implements best safety practices and holds subordinates accountable for adhering to established practices.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned location 3-4 days as business needs.

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. 

 

The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 


 
A reasonable salary range is:

 
1.    Minimum:      $122,000
2.    Midpoint:      $164,000
3.    Maximum:      $207,000
 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • May oversee the construction activities of awarded contracts to ensure compliance with PG&E, state, and federal agency regulations. Identifies and reacts to complex field decisions, using technical knowledge and experience to move forward quickly, considering cost, risk, safety, quality, and customer impact. May make certain changes to the work plan as deemed necessary for the situation. Prepares a re- estimation of the work and /or adjusts the project plan as necessary.
  • Ensures construction work is completed on time and within budget and to quality expectations, while monitoring compliance to standards and specifications. Efficiently and accurately performs monitoring and analysis functions for ongoing projects and work efforts. Reviews current work practices for operational efficiencies and deficiencies and provides feedback. Follows up and recommends improvement to appropriate parties.
  • Develops and/or executes action plans to address deficiencies in process or employee skill/knowledge and track the progress of those plans. Develops and maintains work relationships, regional contacts, and internal networks. May interact with local governments, being able to foster business relationships for permit acquisition.
  • Completes and maintains all work documentation or reporting. Effectively uses resources by monitoring crew productivity. Ensures that customers' needs, and expectations are met. Provides clear, professional, proactive distribution partners in a variety of field situations during the project, while ensuring regulatory compliance and safety. Effectively manages staff/team(s) through recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management and rewards and recognition.
  • Ensures a Close-Out plan has been developed to expediently complete all construction activities. Facilitates or leads weekly team meetings/tailboards. Conducts training as needed. Acts on Notice of Violation (NOV), Notice to Comply (NOC), and environmental compliance. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements including the California Public Utility Commission; Cal OSHA; Environmental Protection Agency, etc.
  • Regularly visits work sites to monitor progress. Proactively prepares for emergency situations; supports company efforts during emergency situations; communicates deficiencies in emergency response/preparedness; resolves issues quickly and efficiently using the correct resources. Is involved in up-front planning, including but not limited to, attending walk downs, design reviews and constructability reviews to reduce construction costs and increase safety.

 

Qualifications
 Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Seven (7) years of related experience
  • Three (3) years minimum in Project Management, Construction Management or Construction.
  • Regular travel throughout the service territory for T300 Supervisors.
  • May need to be on-call or work unusual hours in emergency situations.

Desired:

  • Leadership experience with ‘civil’ construction installing underground facilities
  • Asphalt Paving experience, 5 years
  • Project Management, 5 years
