Department Overview

PG&E's Transportation Services team is responsible for managing all aspects of the PG&E transportation related equipment.  The transportation team is comprised of several interrelated departments including transportation engineering, garage operations, aircraft operations, and business operations (Fleet IT, Regulatory & Compliance, Pool and Rental Management & Fleet Finance). Each of these departments will work together to provide our clients with a full service transportation solution. The work of our Transportation Services department is key to the company's success and provides challenge and variety beyond the day-to-day business operations associated with the service and repair of the PG&E operating fleet. 

 

Position Summary

This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E.  This job is subject to collective bargaining.

 

A garage person provides excellent customer service to employees and visitors of the PG&E Service Center garage(s) and are also responsible for performing vehicle and equipment service work. They are expected to take initiative and promptly assist everyone who visits the garage.  Automotive duties may include, but are not limited to technical maintenance inspections, tire rotations and oil changes.  They are they first point of contact and are expected to perform work duties safely and courteously.  Individuals will be responsible for parking, staging, detailing and maintaining vehicles. A Garageman Garage Person will be required to operate and drive vehicles with automatic and manual transmissions.

 

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.


PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreement, and internal equity. Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the starting hourly rate range for this position is $35.82, subject to collectively bargained wage increases.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Park company equipment.
  • Oil Servicing
  • Dispense fuel and clean company vehicles.
  • Change and repair tires.
  • Perform facility and equipment preventive maintenance inspections and minor adjustments.
  • Services batteries.
  • Perform necessary janitorial/housekeeping duties.
  • Perform driving assignments as required.
  • Perform wash bay duties as required.
  • Assist clerk and/or garage crew lead with garage key and tool inventory/calibration/etc.
  • Assist clerk and/or garage crew lead with additional administrative tasks as required.
  • Other department duties

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a High School diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class A California Driver's License Permit and valid DMV Medical Card by Day 1 of hire    
  • Ability to work in all types of weather extremes
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions
  • Ability to operate and drive a manual transmission
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds a minimum of one time a day
  • Must be able to wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Live withing 50 miles of headquarters (25 miles preferred)
  • Previous PG&E or Hiring Hall Garageman experience
  • 1+ year work experience in a repair garage environment
  • Previous PowerPathway graduate/Current PowerPathway student
  • Demonstrated experience with computer equipment (computer keyboard and mouse)
  • Demonstrated experience with automotive parts and equipment
