Department Overview

The System Performance, Reliability and Resiliency Strategy team within the overall Electric Transmission and Distribution Engineering organization is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the resources necessary to successfully execute PG&E’s Electric Reliability Strategy and initiatives. This team of forward–thinking individuals will be tasked with deploying technology and infrastructure and influencing the organization to achieve the company’s reliability goals. The team is responsible for implementing programs required to modernize the electric grid allowing for safe, resilient and efficient operations. The team participates in a cross functional team of internal and consulting participants being tasked with leading the transition of a project from development and testing to being operational for each phase of each project.

 

Position Summary

The Grid Innovation Engineering Supervisor ensures the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the electric power system by providing innovative engineering and program management support via assignments in asset or component development, reliability analysis and improvement, or long and short-term system planning and implementation. The supervisor plans, organizes, and manages the implementation of PG&E's distribution reliability and asset strategies, programs, and initiatives. Oversees engineers who develop and monitor PG&E's distribution reliability and improvement initiatives; Partners with key department personnel, senior management, engineering teams, business partners and others to successfully implement the company's reliability strategies and initiatives. The Supervisor may be accountable to support budget development, tracking, work plan commitments, projections, and overall financials of assigned reliability improvement programs and maintains knowledge of and adheres to all company and regulatory safety and quality processes and procedures.

 

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)    $147,000.00
Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)    $199,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)    $251,000.00

 

Responsibilities

  • Provides clear direction to team and other departments in the areas of grid modernization as it pertains to Reliability program development & planning and improvement, Grid sectionalizing, and Integrated Grid and investment planning.
  • Oversees the Grid Innovation Engineers working on all reliability and resiliency related programs and initiatives, risk studies and long-term strategy for all PG&E grid
  • Explore, innovate, and demonstrate technologies that improve Grid reliability and resiliency
  • Ensures the distribution system performance will meet reliability targets and that outages are analyzed for cause, trends, & duration and utilized for innovative solutions
  • Articulates goals and mission to key stakeholder teams to assure development of deliverables meets stakeholder needs.
  • Provides clear direction to Grid Innovation Engineers and other departments in the areas of reliability, distribution planning, System operations and local regional team
  • Participates in assignments supporting distribution or distribution network systems. This includes gathering reliability information to lead/facilitate the development of distribution reliability strategy and metrics.
  • Ensures the system is designed to be efficiently operated. Assists Distribution Engineering Operations group in the development of contingency plans for loss of major distribution facilities. Works closely with estimating to ensure primary system is designed to current standards.
  • Partnering with System Planning on IGP “Asset owner” for reliability (i.e. holds the budget)
  • Partners with Manager/Director to help determine the most appropriate and effective program performance metrics. Help develop content and format for reports and dashboards. Prepares and presents regular updates to senior management, addressing issues and gaining buy in on solutions.
  • Partners with Work Planning/Resource Management teams to plan and forecast short- and long-term work to be completed as part of the program. Ensures effective work scheduling and resources will be available to meet the work plan.
  • Develops communication and training plans. Ensures target audience is fully educated and adheres to program policies, processes, procedures. Ensures regulatory compliance with the program.
  • Reviews and approves the maturity for release of technical features in reliability tools, programs, and products.
  • Supervises staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, rewards and recognition.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent related experience.
  • Five years of relevant experience

 

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a focus in Power Systems.
  • Experience in electric distribution program development and execution preferably in areas of reliability, resiliency and grid modernization.
  • Experience working on grid modernization tools or products.
  • Experience with data processing tools such as Excel, Access, SQL, etc.
  • Experience in Transmission or Distribution System Planning.
  • Knowledge of distribution engineering or operations, substation engineering, transmission or distribution protection, distribution operations.
  • Experience working with SAP Financials and Work Management.
  • Program and project management experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable engineering principles, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to the industry and PG&E.
  • Expertise in communication, interpersonal/collaboration influence and negotiation and process management.    
  • Strong leadership and presentation skills.
