Department Overview:

The hardworking coworkers of Electric Engineering ensure all manners of electric engineering—including electric standards and process safety, electric design engineering, instrumentation testing and controls, undergrounding, electric regulatory compliance and electric investment planning—are in place to safely enable a strategic and stable workplan for our Electric Operations partners. Our organization is accountable for program planning, financial budgeting, and project execution and delivery of all electric engineering projects. Electric Engineering is comprised of approximately 2,000 coworkers.

 

Position Summary:

Transmission Line Engineering is responsible for providing engineering support for the planning, design, evaluation, and maintenance of PG&E’s electric transmission system. Engineering support may include structural analysis of transmission towers and poles, conductor and hardware evaluation, foundation and right-of-way considerations, constructability reviews, and support of capital and maintenance programs. The Leadership may oversee teams of Project Managers, Project Control Analysts and/or Engineers. The work groups they oversee may consist of all regular employees, contractors or both and is responsible for managing electric capital construction and/or maintenance projects throughout service territory. The Leadership works with clients and Asset Strategy to identify projects annually and may oversee the project engineering groups that generate the scope of work and the design engineering groups that prepare detailed design engineering instructions to install equipment. Incumbents are typically assigned to a region or area with an annual project portfolio budget. The Leadership promotes a safety culture and ensures staff adhere to all company and regulatory safety practices and policies.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $​144,000.00

Bay Area Maximum: $​244,000.00

 

California Minimum: $​137,000.00

California Maximum: $232,000.00

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leads an electrical design engineering team that provides support for transmission line projects throughout the service territory. Promotes accountability through recognition, coaching, training and development.
  • Encourages teamwork, commitment, and quality work products, while following the ESC contract.
  • Forecasts work and matches with appropriate short- and long-term resource plan. Supports resource need for transformation initiatives and standard development.
  • Assigns individual and team projects to balance project requirements with resource availability. Tracks schedule and cost performance and ensures delivery of high-quality design products.
  • Tracks actual vs. estimated costs and schedules, tracks drawing control, improves productivity, and uses Change Orders effectively.
  • Provides support and solicits feedback from other departments (Maintenance, Construction, Operations, Project Management, etc.) regarding all aspects of the projects.
  • Maintains forecasts of project resource requirements. Plans for internal design workload and recommends workload to be contracted. Supports contract work through careful drawing control and design quality reviews as required.
  • Looks for and recommends process changes to improve design productivity, quality, and customer focus. Supports related department initiatives.
  • Supports Transmission Asset Management initiatives by providing local asset team perspectives.
  • 10-25 direct reports including Engineers, Designers, Drafters, and support staff. May supervise union and non-union employees.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 5 years of experience in engineering with some of it in electric substation and transmission line engineering
  • Regular travel required throughout the assigned region or service territory

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • P.E. License
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of civil or electrical engineering practices, standards and implementation
  • Knowledge of PG&E’s electric substation and transmission line facilities
  • Experience with supervision in project and design engineering
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong MS Office skills
  • Knowledge of Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) Union Contract
