Department Overview

Electric Operations ensure the delivery of clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy to nearly 16 million people in Northern and Central California. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, Standards, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

The Substation Standards Engineering department is tasked with establishing the criteria and specifications for designing all substation facilities. This role involves maintaining up-to-date standard design drawings to ensure system-wide consistency, safety, reliability, and adherence to various agency guidelines (such as IEEE and ASCE).

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 

 

The hourly rate for a bachelor’s degree ranges from $24.52 to $35.37.

 

Responsibilities

  • Actively promote safe practices and conduct in accordance with the Corporate Safety policy.
  • Accomplish the department goal of zero injuries & avoidable auto incidents.
  • Foster teamwork, innovation and embrace new approaches to accomplish our work more efficiently and effectively.
  • Work with and learn from other departments involved in Substations such as Substation Engineering Maintenance, Construction, Asset Strategy, Distribution Planning, Transmission Planning, Supplier Quality Engineers, Protection, Automation, etc.
  • Assist Standards Engineer in creating/updating Standard documents and Drawings
  • Assist Standards Engineer with equipment/vendor qualifications and reports
  • This position is a hybrid position and will be required to show up in office at the discretion of the hiring leader.

The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with a team of experienced engineers. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Substation Standards organization through the work they will be performing.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering or related engineering field at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards degree during and/or after the internship.
  • Must be able to travel to various offices within the PGE service territory.  

 

Desired:

  • EIT or FE certification
  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
