Position Summary

The Senior Manager of Grid Operations & Reliability Risk evaluates, monitors, and manages system safety, reliability, and operational risk across Electric Transmission and Distribution. This role leads a team responsible for identifying operational vulnerabilities, understanding reliability hot spots, managing real-time operational and market-interface risks, and maintaining systemwide risk registers. The Senior Manager partners closely with System Operations and Planning organizations to develop and deploy mitigation strategies that enhance grid reliability and reduce operational risk.

 

The selected candidate must live within PG&E’s service territory.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area)            $155,000.00

Mid Base Salary (Bay Area)        $210,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area)           $265,000.00

 

Minimum Base Salary (California)         $147,000.00

Mid Base Salary (California)      $200,000.00

Maximum Base Salary (California)        $252,000.00

 

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and manage system safety, reliability, and operational risk across the Transmission and Distribution system.
  • Identify operational vulnerabilities and reliability hot spots by analyzing system performance, operational data, and emerging trends.
  • Oversee CAISO market interface risk, including dispatch, congestion management, and operational market exposure.
  • Maintain risk registers for transmission, substation, and operational reliability, ensuring data quality, structure, and accuracy.
  • Partner with System Operations and Planning to develop, implement, and track mitigation strategies.
  • Lead and develop high-performing teams, setting clear direction, monitoring performance, and ensuring delivery of program objectives.
  • Provide reporting and communication to officers, directors, and stakeholder committees on risk insights, mitigation status, and operational recommendations.
  • Develop procedures, analytics, dashboards, and tools to quantify operational reliability risk and support operational decision-making.
  • Represent the company as required in industry forums, conferences, and working groups related to operational risk, system reliability, and market operations.
  • Drive innovation with external vendors to enhance operational risk analytics and monitoring capabilities.
  • Support corrective action development and implementation to improve grid reliability and reduce operational exposures.

 

Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years of experience in engineering, operations, analytics, or related disciplines.

 

Desired

  • Master’s degree.
  • 5 years of supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Professional Engineering License.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Strong understanding of Transmission & Distribution operations, reliability, outage performance, and control center functions.
  • Experience evaluating operational or market-interface risks.
  • Ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and oversee complex risk, analytics, and operations programs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, distill technical content, and influence decisions across technical and leadership teams.
  • Experience facilitating cross-functional problem-solving initiatives.
