Summary: As the Sr. Manager, Compliance Strategy, you’ll set the strategic direction for PG&E’s Electric Compliance organization, defining strategy, driving alignment, and championing best practices across the function. You lead with vision, anticipating regulatory trends and translating complex requirements into clear, actionable frameworks that strengthen performance and accountability. You lead communications and reporting to senior leadership, ensuring compliance insights are clear, timely, and impactful. You drive strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects that advance the compliance organization’s goals and enhance enterprise coordination, fostering a culture of proactive risk management and continuous improvement. You ensure compliance isn't just followed but is embedded in how PG&E operates in an evolving energy landscape.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
• Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $155,000.00
• Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $210,000.00
• Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $265,000.00
Responsibilities:
• Set Compliance Strategy: Define and lead the strategic direction for the Electric Compliance organization, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals.
• Anticipate Regulatory Shifts: Scan the horizon for regulatory, industry, and technology trends to shape proactive strategies that enhance compliance readiness.
• Shape Executive Communications: Develop and deliver impactful compliance communications for executive forums, translating complexity into clarity for senior leaders.
• Establish Best Practices: Create and sustain a comprehensive library of compliance best practices through benchmarking, external engagement, and cross-industry collaboration.
• Drive Cross-Functional Execution:
o Lead enterprise-wide initiatives that advance compliance maturity, reduce risk exposure, and embed compliance into operational routines.
o Identifies and analyzes emerging challenges and opportunities, assessing business impact and offering solutions.
o Develops recommendations on how the Company can position itself to take advantage of opportunities and proactively adjust and prepare for challenges, mitigating risks.
• Accelerate Compliance Adoption: Champion adoption of strategic compliance initiatives across lines of business through thoughtful change leadership and stakeholder engagement.
• Align Regulatory Partners: Collaborate with Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Engineering, Asset Strategy, and Operations to ensure cohesive interpretation and application of regulatory requirements.
• Grow and Empower Teams: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing compliance team responsible for executing compliance strategies, communications, and enterprise alignment. Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition.
• Communicate with Clarity & Authority: Engage confidently with executives and stakeholders, translating complex reporting requirements into clear and digestible actions and communications.
• Elevate Quality Systems: Lead development and continuous improvement of the Compliance Quality Management System (QMS) to drive consistency, accountability, and performance. Develops, monitors, analyzes, and reports on signposts that may affect the Company’s ability to meet its goal.
Qualifications
Minimum:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, business administration or job-related field or equivalent related work experience.
• 10 years of relevant work experience with steady progression of responsibilities
• 2 years of leadership experience
Desired:
• Prior involvement with regulatory audits, inspections, or filings
• Expertise in enterprise risk management frameworks
• 5+ years in a leadership role leading cross-functional teams (moved from min qualifications)
• Direct experience in utility compliance, operations or related programs
• Professional Engineer (P.E.)
• Lean Six Sigma Certification
• Project Management Professional (PMP)
• Quality Management Systems certification (e.g., ISO 9001, ASQ)
• Prosci® Certified Change Practitioner
• Deep knowledge of utility regulatory frameworks (e.g., CPUC, FERC, NERC, WECC) and how they inform enterprise compliance strategy
• Proven ability to design and lead implementation of compliance governance models that drive operational alignment and accountability
• Strong understanding of utility operations and asset management, with the ability to translate regulatory expectations into field-executable strategy
• Demonstrated success leading cross-functional, high-impact initiatives through risk-based planning, change leadership, and strategic execution
• Skilled in interpreting and operationalizing emerging regulatory trends to inform proactive, forward-looking compliance strategies
• Executive communication skills and presence, with experience delivering high-impact presentations and updates to senior leadership and external stakeholders
• Ability to align compliance strategy with enterprise goals, influencing direction across functions through collaboration, insight, and strategic clarity
• Proficiency in compliance systems, reporting tools, and analytics platforms (e.g., GRC, SAP, Power BI) to support insight-driven decision-making
