Department Overview

Wildfire and Emergency Operations (WEO) at PG&E is responsible for operational mitigations, enterprise Wildfire Mitigation Plans, and enterprise Emergency Preparedness & Response. This includes Meteorology and Fire Science, Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), and Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS).

 

Position Summary

As a Software Product Intern for the Public Safety Power Shutoff Business Product (PSPS) Team, you will collaborate with product and business managers to help build a focused BI dashboard solution. You'll work on creating an intuitive web-based interface for data visualization and basic data integration capabilities. This is a hands-on role where you'll contribute to building core components of our BI solution while gaining practical experience in modern software development practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement key components of our BI platform using modern web technologies and backend services
  • Create intuitive data visualization interfaces and interactive dashboards
  • Build basic data integration features
  • Implement user authentication and security features
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
  • Collaborate with engineers and participate in code reviews
  • Document your work and contribute to specifications

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

 

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $22.77 to $36.42.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Continuing education towards a degree during and/or after the internship.

Desired:

  • Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript, or similar languages
  • Basic understanding of databases and SQL
  • Experience with web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Familiarity with data structures
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with React, or similar frontend frameworks
  • Familiarity with data visualization libraries (D3.js, Chart.js, etc.)
  • Knowledge of REST APIs
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts
  • Previous experience with BI tools or data analytics
  • 3.5 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Initiative-taking and ability to work independently with minimal direction.
