Job Summary:

Pacific Gas & Electric Company is seeking a highly experienced Senior Manager of Safety to join our Materials Operation team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Materials team for the Distribution Center and Field Services department to develop and implement safety programs, procedures, and training to ensure a safe working environment for employees handling materials, operating equipment, and performing field services.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location 2-3 days a week based on business need.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

 

Bay Area Minimum: $​144,000

Bay Area Maximum: $244,000​

 

Job Responsibilities

1. Develop and implement safety programs: Collaborate with the Materials Management team and Field Services department to develop and implement safety programs, procedures, and training to prevent injuries and illnesses related to materials handling, storage, and field operations.

2. Conduct risk assessments: Identify potential hazards and conduct risk assessments to develop targeted safety interventions and controls for materials handling, storage, and field operations.

3. Develop and deliver training: Develop and deliver training programs to employees on safe materials handling, storage, and field operations practices, including equipment operation and safety procedures.

4. Investigate incidents: Investigate incidents and near-misses related to materials handling, storage, and field operations, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.

5. Collaborate with Materials Management team: Work closely with the Materials Management team to ensure safety procedures are integrated into daily operations and that employees are aware of and follow safety protocols.

6. Ensure regulatory compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and laws related to materials handling, storage, and field operations, including OSHA and other regulatory bodies.

7. Monitor and analyze safety data: Track and analyze safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement, developing targeted interventions to address safety risks.

8. Lead and manage safety personnel: Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of safety professionals. Provide clear direction, set performance expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and support career development.

9. Nurture a culture of safety: Promote a proactive safety culture through leadership, communication, and engagement with employees at all levels of the organization.

 

Qualifications

Minimum 

  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as safety, occupational health, or engineering, is required.
  2. 8 years of safety experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in safety management, preferably in a utility or similar industry.
  3. 3+ years of people management experience: Proven experience leading and developing teams, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

 

Desired:

1. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification: CSP certification or other relevant safety certifications are desirable.

2. Experience in a utility industry: Experience working in a utility industry, such as energy or telecommunications, is preferred.

3. Knowledge of materials handling equipment: Familiarity with materials handling equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyor systems.

4. Experience with ISO 45001, Occupational Health & Safety management systems to support PG&E Safety Excellence Management System (PSEMS).  

5. Knowledge of safety regulations: Familiarity with relevant safety regulations, standards, and laws related to materials handling, storage, and field operations.

6. Excellent communication and training skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and deliver effective training programs.

7. Analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to analyze safety data and develop targeted interventions to address safety risks.
