Position Summary
The Vegetation Management Leadership leads staff and outside contractors to ensure public safety, electric reliability, and regulatory compliance with state and federal vegetation management rules. The incumbents also serve as subject matter experts, provide guidance and influence, and act as external leaders in the industry on regulatory issues and market strategies. The leaders work with customers and public entities to monitor and manage vegetation proximity to PG&E assets to ensure system reliability and safety objectives. The leaders promote and adhere to all company and regulatory safety guidelines and requirements.
This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to report to their assigned office location at least two to four days per week. The remaining days may be worked remotely, depending on business needs. The headquarters location is flexible and must be within the PG&E service territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
Salary Range:
Bay Area Minimum: $155,000
Bay Area Maximum: $265,000
&/OR
California Minimum: $147,000
California Maximum: $252,000
This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Reporting Relationship
The Senior Manager, Resource & Allocation will report to the Senior Director, Vegetation Construction Management
Job Responsibilities
• Provides leadership and vision to the VM organization to achieve primary objectives of public safety, electric reliability, and regulatory compliance related to vegetation management in support of company objectives.
• Leads the vegetation management department, comprising governance, support, and operations. Establishes overall strategic direction, sets short—and long-term goals, and establishes performance measures to ensure alignment with overall Company and Electric Operations goals.
• Ensures the VM department is organized to achieve success and address future needs.
• Deals with the most complex, complicated, and/or sensitive issues with customers and public entities escalated from others, including Sr. Management and regulatory authorities. May speak/present to elected officials, regulatory bodies, and others, representing PG&E’s position regarding vegetation issues. Seeks resolutions that balance the customer, agency, and business needs.
• Sets direction and oversees VM governance functions, including document control, quality control, and quality assurance to ensure regulatory compliance, safety, and reliability.
• Ensures contracts are in place and administered by company policies and standards; approximate value of $250 million.
• Develops and manages department budget. Regularly assesses actual expenses versus target, making decisions about project prioritization. Manages an approximately $250m budget allocated to achieve VM objectives. Reviews and approves work forecasts and budgets. Monitors expenses and reports on actuals vs. budget. Develops variance explanations and action plans to address; presents them to the director.
• Collaborates with and influences internal and external contacts and stakeholders at various levels on issues and developments affecting vegetation management for the company and/or industry. Serves as a subject matter expert, participating in projects or initiatives to positively affect pending legislation or rule-making by local, state, or federal agencies such as CalFire, CalTrans, USFS, and the National Park Service. Active in the utility arborist association to influence standards across the industry, and may lead considerable statewide efforts on behalf of PG&E to resolve issues and conflicts or to educate other parties.
• Manages staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development & succession, performance management, and rewards and recognition.
• Collaborates with internal and external partners to improve resourcing outcomes. Identifies opportunities to optimize sourcing strategies and contract execution.
Qualifications
Minimum:
• Bachelor’s degree in job-related discipline or equivalent experience.
• 12 years of job-related experience with at least 7 years in a leadership role

• Strong knowledge of forestry and/or utility vegetation management concepts, methods, and techniques.
• Broad knowledge of current utility and energy industry, economic, social & and political issues, trends, and business drivers.
• Expert leadership skills.
• Demonstrated strong business acumen with strategic problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Business and financial acumen to manage significant budgets.
• Advanced ability to strategically navigate processes in a heavily regulated environment.

• Competent with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Experience in resource allocation or construction management.
