Department Overview

 

The Electric Engineering team ensures the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Engineering is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

 

This position is represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) subject to collective bargaining.

 

The Senior level engineer job requires mastery of the Journey level engineer skills and duties. This position is responsible for providing strategy, engineering, operations, maintenance, and other technical implementation support for the transmission, substation, distribution, and transmission and distribution line SCADA/Automation systems. This position handles complex problems and issues.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

 

The annual salary range is:

 

CA Minimum, $153,828

CA Maximum, $197,628 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Substation Standards Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring that substation designs, equipment, and operations meet regulatory, safety, and performance standards.

  • Develop and review substation standard layout drawings, grounding systems, raceways, and control building arrangements
  • Develop standard Protection and Automation schematics
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in area of field and applies extensive knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices. Develop and provide specialized training on assets within areas of expertise.
  • Prepare specifications for high-voltage equipment (e.g., breakers, transformers, switches,CCVTs, etc)
  • Evaluate new technologies for Substation equipment and design to enhance system reliability and performance
  • Conduct new vendor reviews and qualifications for various equipment
  • Solves problems by developing and utilizing engineering design and technical solutions.

 

Scope:

  • Provide leadership, direction, and assistance to teams on standards.
  • Resolves problems of complex scope. Assignments may require complex solutions.
  • Works independently with limited feedback from other engineers and management.
  • Demonstrates well-developed technical skills and communication skills.
  • Effectively completes multiple projects concurrently.

 

Interaction:

  • Communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders (Engineering, Asset Management, M&C, Supplier Quality).
  • Provide guidance to peers and lower-level engineers.
  • Work sometimes requires direction from more senior engineers and management.
  • Works with internal and external personnel. External contacts include vendors, PG&E contractors, customers and regulatory agencies. May include other governmental contacts as assigned

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent from outside the US
  • 8 years of cumulative experience in electrical engineering, planning and/or operations

 

Desired:

  • Current and active California PE license
  • Experience in substation design and engineering
