Department Overview
The System Performance, Reliability and Resiliency Strategy team within the overall Electric Transmission and Distribution Engineering organization is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the resources necessary to successfully execute PG&E’s Electric Reliability Strategy and initiatives. Within this department the Reliability Strategy team develops the overall reliability strategy to meet company targets. This strategy integrates current performance of reliability mitigations, predictive analytics, target forecasts and the project portfolio to identify needed work to deliver for PG&E’s customers.
Position Summary
Applies data analysis and operational analytics to support the development and execution of PG&E’s enterprise reliability strategy. Extracts, manages, and analyzes operational data to provide timely, accurate, and actionable insights that inform reliability performance, risk assessment, and strategic decision-making across Electric Transmission and Distribution Engineering.
Maintains and enhances operational data tools, databases, and reporting processes, ensuring data is current, reliable, and accessible to stakeholders. Develops automated data pipelines and reporting solutions that support performance monitoring, predictive analysis, and ongoing strategy execution. Identifies gaps in data availability and usability, driving improvements to enable faster, more consistent insights for leadership and cross-functional teams.
Partners with engineering, operations, and strategy teams to translate complex data into clear, actionable reports and recommendations. Supports project delivery by managing data and analytics efforts from intake through analysis and presentation, ensuring alignment with enterprise reliability objectives and timelines. Contributes to continuous improvement of data processes, analytics capabilities, and reporting frameworks to strengthen system reliability and resilience outcomes.
This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to report to their assigned office location at least two or three days per week. The remaining days may be worked remotely, depending on business needs. The headquarters is located in the Oakland General Office.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company, in good faith, believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the job's locality. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired for this role will be placed toward the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis based on these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $105,000
Bay Area Mid-Point: $137,000
Bay Area Maximum: $169,000
Job Responsibilities
• Lead the extraction, management, and analysis of operational data to support PG&E’s enterprise reliability strategy, enabling data-driven decisions across Electric Transmission and Distribution Engineering.
• Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines, tools, and databases to ensure high-quality, timely, and reliable delivery of performance data and insights.
• Develop and implement advanced automated data processes, including data validation, cleansing, and transformation, to improve accuracy, efficiency, and repeatability of reporting.
• Deliver complex analytical products, including dashboards, models, and ad hoc analyses, that provide actionable insights into reliability performance, risk, and trends.
• Integrate predictive analytics, forecasting, and performance metrics into reporting frameworks to support proactive strategy development and execution.
• Lead data and analytics workstreams across projects, ensuring successful delivery from intake through analysis, validation, and presentation to stakeholders and leadership.
• Identify and resolve systemic data gaps and quality issues, driving improvements in data accessibility, governance, and usability across the organization.
• Partner with engineering, operations, IT, and strategy teams to define data requirements and ensure alignment with enterprise reliability objectives and regulatory expectations.
• Apply advanced statistical and analytical methods to produce insight-driven recommendations that influence operational and strategic decisions.
• Translate complex data into clear, concise, and executive-ready communications, supporting decision-making at multiple organizational levels.
• Establish and uphold data governance and quality standards, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and audit readiness.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across data processes, reporting frameworks, and analytical capabilities to enhance reliability and resilience outcomes.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior analysts, promoting best practices in data analysis, process design, and problem-solving.
Qualifications
Minimum:
• BA/BS Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related field, or equivalent work experience
• 4 years of related work experience
Desired:
• Familiarity with utility operations.
• Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel/Access (complex formulas, graphing, VBA)
• Advanced skill in writing SQL queries using Oracle or Business Objects
• Proficient in UNIX shell programming (csh, awk, sed, vi).
• Solid knowledge of base-SAS and programming languages such as Visual Basic, Perl, and C
• Strong organizational skills, ability to effectively prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work on multiple tasks independently.
• Good communication and presentation skills to deliver findings and make recommendations to stakeholders.
• Project management skills.
