Department Overview

 The Materials Distribution Operations (MDO) department and Materials Planning department includes a staff of over 400 employees. MDO is responsible for the day-to-day operation and execution of PG&E’s materials distribution network throughout its 70,000 square mile service territory.  Through its 4 materials distribution centers and over 100 field locations, MDO manages a $900 million inventory and $927 million in annual goods issues.  MDO’s management and delivery of materials and supplies is critical to PG&E’s ability to provide safe and reliable electric and gas service. The Materials Planning team is responsible for full material lifecycle management including material master data governance, material demand/supply planning, and investment recovery.  Third-party transportation management including company mail services and Supply Chain safety program management is also managed within Material Planning.

 

Position Summary

This position will provide field safety support for the Materials Distribution Centers and Field Services departments. You will be the key safety contact who will operationalize all safety programs in Materials. You will spend your time where the work is performed in our distribution centers (Fremont, CA – Wheatland, CA – Fresno, CA – Stockton, CA), service center warehouses, and temporary yards. You will support and guide Materials leadership and grassroots safety teams through coaching and consistent follow-up. You will also coach department coworkers and supervisors on injury prevention and building capacity to fail safely. You are passionate about keeping everyone and everything safe, and tenacious in completing objectives.  

 

You must be able to travel at least 50% of the time with overnight stays.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and any office within the PG&E service territory based on business needs. 

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.  

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $126,000

Bay Area Midpoint: $163,000         

Bay Area Maximum: $200,000

California Minimum: $120,000

California Midpoint: $155,000

California Maximum: $190,000

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular field and driver safety monitoring and assessments to reinforce and enhance awareness of Materials and PG&E safety procedures, work methods and standards.
  • Execute Materials safety plans at a tactical level.
  • Coach Material’s supervisors and coworkers on all safety programs and industry standard requirements and recommended practices for compliance.
  • Consult with  leadership and subject matter experts on incident investigations, corrective actions development, and completion of action items.
  • Develop and conduct field communication through various channels (roadshows, safety summits, tailboards, safety flashes, stand downs, all-hands meetings, etc.) to discuss relevant safety information.
  • Observe and analyze various field safety-related issues and trends and provide recommendations for improvement based on established standards and procedures.
  • Support incident investigation team as subject matter expert to help determine causal factors
  • May lead the casual analysis portion of safety  investigations.
  • Communicate safety trends and recommends safety corrective actions
  • Serve as a safety subject matter expert for supervisors and field coworkers.
  • May perform safety assessments of Material’s contractors and monitor safety behaviors.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • 7 years of relevant experience in workforce safety
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (additional 4 years of experience in lieu of degree) 

Desired:

  • Experience in warehousing and logistics.
  • Utility experience.
  • Implementation of Human and Organizational Performance mindset and tools
  • Experience with DOT, commercial vehicle driving, training and compliance.
  • Professional Certification/Safety Management (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Management).
  • Knowledge of key PG&E organizations and their potential exposures to safety and operational risks.
  • Knowledge of PG&E safety procedures and the Code of Safe Practices.
  • Expert level knowledge of CalOSHA general industry and material handling safety orders and basic knowledge of other recognized safety regulations and standards (e.g., ANSI, NFPA, FedOSHA, etc.).
  • Proficient at conducting and evaluating root cause analysis investigations and evaluating the effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Proficient at conducting hazard evaluations and risk assessments for complex jobs and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Demonstrates skill in delivering clear, understandable oral presentations to groups.
