Department Overview

The Enterprise Health and Safety (EHS) Department develops and implements programs that drive improved safety for our coworkers, contractors, and hometowns. One of the programs is PG&E Safety Excellence Management System (PSEMS). PSEMS is the company’s integrated management system that provides the framework for how we systematically manage risks to our processes, assets, occupational health and safety.  This framework establishes the governance and operational requirements for how we operate our business to generate and deliver safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy for our customers and hometowns.

 

Position Summary:

The Safety Program Manager, Principal will be responsible for supporting the advancement and maturity of PG&E Safety Excellence Management System through strategic problem-solving, implementing advanced methods and techniques for process improvement, deliberate and skillful planning, governance, oversight, training and communication for effective decision making.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and assigned location based on business needs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leads the advancement of PG&E’s Safety Excellence Management System (PSEMS) by applying depth and breadth of knowledge of management systems to address unique and complex situations/issues

 

  • Develops highly complex processes to track and support functional area maturity, identify gaps and opportunities for improvement

 

  • Demonstrates leadership with internal and external stakeholders to support PSEMS goals and objectives, serving as a subject-matter expert for PG&E’s integrated safety management system, responding to data requests, leading complex cross-functional problem solving, anticipating issues and developing innovative solutions to sustain safety program governance and oversight

 

  • Works with cross-functional leads to evaluate, align, and enhance PSEMS program performance including awareness, compliance, and adherence to best in class industry standards

 

  • Makes presentations to different levels of the organization as well as communicates PSEMS philosophy, information and operational policies and requirements

 

  • Develops and provides PSEMS training suitable for target audience

 

  • Leads the development and tracking of program goals and metrics to meet enterprise goals and objectives

 

  • Collaborates and leads coordination and facilitation of program review sessions with leaders and/or functional groups to review schedule and program effectiveness

 

  • Coaches and mentors less experienced employees

 

 

Minimum Education:

BA/BS or equivalent experience

 

Education Desired:

MA/MS Degree

 

Minimum License/Certification:

Safety Certification/Management Systems (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHST, CUSP, OSHA-30 hour, etc.) or a safety degree

 

Minimum Experience:

9 years of safety and program development/management experience in a construction or utility environment

  • Ability to organize clear and concise presentation points and deliver these in an informative, engaging, and articulate manner

  • Competency in making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems
  • Competency in operating effectively, even when things are not certain or the way forward is not clear
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, results orientated environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office to analyze results and produce reports
  • Good analytical and writing skills

 

 

  • Note:  May travel at least 50% of the time across the PG&E territory
