Department Overview

Years of drought, extreme heat, and 129 million dead trees have created a “new normal” in California that requires PG&E to change its approach to how it designs and operates the electric system. Extreme weather events are causing unprecedented wildfires. In response, the company is bolstering wildfire prevention and emergency response efforts, putting in place new and enhanced safety measures, and hardening its electric system to help reduce wildfire risks and keep customers safe. A key tool for wildfire mitigation is the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) Program, designed to de-energize portions of PG&E’s system during extreme weather conditions, to mitigate the risk of catastrophic fires.

Position Summary

The PSPS team is looking for a talented summer intern to support various workstreams related to PSPS process and development and refinement. You will be working with grid engineers, program & product managers, operations, and meteorologists to ensure our tools and processes meet the needs of our customers and stakeholders. Additionally, you will gain knowledge of the larger Electric Operations, IT, and customer care organizations through the work you will be performing.

The PSPS team was established in 2018, and is relatively new to PG&E — We’re looking for future leaders to develop the next iterations of the program, while continuing to reduce wildfire risk, and mitigate the effects of PSPS on our customers. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, capable of working autonomously and with a team, as well as developing out of the box solutions in a fast-paced environment.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting.
