Department Overview

 

The Right-of-Way Risk Reduction Strategy (ROWRS) team develops and implements innovative solutions to identify, prioritize, and reduce risk associated with electric transmission and distribution right-of-way encroachments, fee parcel trespasses, and related land-use challenges. The team partners across Engineering, Operations, Land, Legal, Risk, Environmental, Community Relations, Finance, and Information Technology organizations to improve safety, reliability, affordability, and customer outcomes through process improvement, technology, analytics, and strategic program management.

 

Position Summary

The Associate Program Manager provides programmatic, financial, analytical, and operational support for the ROWRS organization. This position assists with budget planning and forecasting, KPI reporting, resource management, project coordination, process improvement initiatives, and stakeholder engagement activities. The role collaborates with cross-functional partners to monitor program performance, identify risks and opportunities, and support the successful execution of strategic initiatives.

 

This position is well suited for a recent college graduate or early-career professional seeking to develop expertise in program management, business analysis, operational planning, data-driven decision making, and utility operations.

 

Within the first 12-18 months, the successful candidate will:

  • Support development of accurate program budgets and forecasts.
  • Deliver timely KPI reporting and executive-ready performance summaries.
  • Improve visibility into budget and resource performance through analytics and reporting.
  • Contribute to business case development and process improvement initiatives.
  • Establish strong working relationships across ROWRS and partner organizations.
  • Support successful execution of strategic ROWRS initiatives and governance activities.
  • Identify and implement opportunities that improve efficiency, reporting, and program performance.
  • Develop foundational expertise in utility program management and risk reduction strategy.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned location at least two days a week and or based on business need.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

Bay Area Minimum: $66,000

Bay Area Mid:$82,000
Bay Maximum: $98,000

 

California Minimum:$63,000

California Mid:$78,000

California Maximum: $93,000

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

Job Responsibilities

Program Planning & Coordination (25%)

  • Support planning, coordination, and execution of ROWRS initiatives and projects.
  • Maintain program schedules, milestones, action logs, and status reports.
  • Assist program managers with project planning, implementation tracking, and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate cross-functional meetings and document key decisions, risks, and action items.
  • Help track program dependencies and support escalation of issues requiring leadership attention.

Financial Planning & Budget Management (25%)

  • Assist in development of annual budgets, monthly forecasts, and long-range financial plans.
  • Monitor actual costs versus budget and forecast.
  • Perform financial analysis to identify spending trends, risks, and budget variances.
  • Gather variance explanations from project teams and business partners.
  • Develop recommendations and corrective action plans to improve forecast accuracy and budget performance.
  • Support preparation of financial updates for leadership reviews and governance meetings.

 

KPI Reporting & Performance Analytics (20%)

  • Help develop and maintain program performance dashboards and KPI scorecards.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret operational, financial, and program performance data.
  • Monitor key metrics, identify emerging trends, and highlight areas requiring management attention.
  • Prepare visualizations, presentations, and executive summaries for leadership teams.
  • Support continuous improvement of reporting processes and data quality.

 

Work & Resource Planning (10%)

  • Partner with Work and Resource Management teams to support near-term and long-term work planning activities.
  • Assist with resource forecasting, workload analysis, and capacity planning.
  • Track program commitments and support development of work plans aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Monitor progress against plan and identify resource constraints or schedule risks.

 

Business Analysis & Process Improvement (10%)

  • Assist with development of business requirements, process maps, workflows, and business cases.
  • Document current-state and future-state business processes.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve efficiency, and reduce manual work.
  • Support evaluation of technology-enabled solutions and automation opportunities.
  • Research industry best practices and recommend innovative approaches.

Stakeholder & Community Engagement (5%)

  • Support community outreach and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Coordinate meeting logistics, communications, presentations, and follow-up actions.
  • Assist with development of outreach materials and stakeholder updates.

 

Program Administration & Governance (5%)

  • Maintain program documentation, records, governance materials, and meeting artifacts.
  • Support preparation of executive presentations, leadership briefings, and status reports.
  • Track risks, assumptions, issues, and decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure program activities comply with applicable policies, procedures, and standards.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, Data Analytics, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

 

 

 

Desired:

  • Internship or experience supporting projects, business analysis, financial planning, or operational improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
  • Experience creating reports, dashboards, or presentations.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI.
  • Understanding of process mapping and business requirements development.
  • Exposure to utility, infrastructure, engineering, or risk management environments.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a continuous improvement mindset.
