Department Overview

The Grid Planning and Capacity Delivery (GPCD) team’s mission is to help PG&E prepare for the increasing complexities of the electric grid of today and the future. The GPCD team provides grid capacity and distribution investment data, develops state of the art software and tools, and deploys new processes, to enhance transparency into PG&E’s distribution planning. As part of the Electric System Planning team, help us chart the future of the utility and the energy industry.

The team works in a matrixed environment to identify barriers in delivering electric capacity to our customers and implements solutions to address them. The team also advocates for strategies and policies to integrate DERs effectively and prepare the grid for building and transportation electrification through regulatory proceedings, such as in the Modernize the Electric Grid for a High Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Future Proceeding.

 

Position Summary

The Grid Planning and Capacity Delivery (GPCD) team is looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead PG&E's Distribution Deferral Opportunity Report (DDOR) and Grid Needs Assessment (GNA) as part of the Distribution Investment Deferral Framework (DIDF). The GNA report provides the grid needs identified in PG&E’s annual distribution planning process, including the assumptions and methodology used to forecast the deficiencies. The DDOR report identifies PG&E’s solutions to mitigate each grid need identified in the GNA report.

The candidate will inform PG&E’s policies and represent the company as it prepares the grid for a highly electrified future. The successful candidate will have the communication skills to coordinate and engage with internal and external counterparts and the innovative capabilities to drive the future development of distribution planning tools.

 

This position is based out of PG&E’s General Office complex in Oakland, although flexible work locations will be considered.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $​102,000

Bay Area Midpoint: $132,000

Bay Area Maximum: $​162,000

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead PG&E's Distribution Deferral Opportunity Report (DDOR) and Grid Needs Assessment (GNA) as part of the Distribution Investment Deferral Framework (DIDF).
  • Support regulatory activities by writing testimony, responding to data requests, meeting with regulators and other Investor-Owned Utilities (IOUs), and providing content for regulatory filings.
  • Support the publication and use of Distribution Investment Deferral Framework (DIDF) results on a public-facing Data Portal.
  • Collaborate with distribution planning, distribution operations, engineering, IT, and standards departments in the publication of the DIDF
  • Help develop automated tools to efficiently perform distribution planning process, considering a highly electrified and DER penetrated of the future.
  • Represent PG&E in regulatory proceedings.
  • Manage vendors on the provision of distribution planning tools to enable more advanced analysis
  • Help answering key business questions by querying data from large databases, running statistical data analysis, and data validation.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Business, Economics, or related or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of related experience or equivalent

Desired:

  • Master’s in Business Administration or other Advanced Degree
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Familiarity with Power BI, python and/or SQL scripting
  • Familiarity with large databases and data analytics is a plus
  • Public speaking and stakeholder engagement experience
  • Experience in distribution planning and distribution planning modeling software (e.g., CYME, LoadSEER, SYNERGI)
