Position Summary

 

This position reports directly to the Chief of Staff, who is the key advisor and program support person to the Executive Vice President (EVP) of Information Technology. The Chief of Staff plays a key role on the leadership team and works closely with key partners to ensure the information Technology organization effectively executes the purpose, virtues, stands, True North Strategy, financial targets, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and other goals of the Company and the organization.  This role of Principal Program Manager will assume primary responsibility for several of the programs and oversight that are managed by the Chief of Staff.

In this role, you will ensure the coordination of activities across the organization and assist in the development and implementation of collaborative and constructive relationships to facilitate Breakthrough outcomes and performance improvement. You will also oversee and lead critical processes and key initiatives that support the CIO and the overall IT team.  Additionally, you will have the opportunity to be involved in all matters that comprise the function and will serve as the delegate for the Chief of Staff during certain meetings. 

 

The role requires a highly resourceful person with emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and strong analytical skills. You will participate in leadership discussions spanning a broad range of topics including financial, operational, personnel, strategic planning, technical, and coordination across the CIO organization. You will work with the overall IT Chief of Staff team, and this role will represent PG&E CIO in internal team and external cross functional meetings. With large business processes and technology platform transformation planned and required, you will have a front row seat in shaping the smart digital future in a premier utility company.

 

This position is classified as a hybrid work type. The successful candidate should generally plan to work from the Oakland General Office 0-3 days per week, on average, and may be asked to occasionally work from other PG&E job sites, as business needs arise.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum:             $140,000    

Bay Area Maximum:            $238,000

 

Job Responsibilities

 

Strategic Leadership and Program Management

  • Lead special projects requested by the EVP and Chief of Staff, and hold others accountable for their participation and deliverables, including ensuring timely follow-up on action items or specific requests.
  • Partner with the Office of the CIO (OCIO) in managing the financial planning, budget, and operational performance of the department and supporting effective delivery of the BPD process.
  • Collaborate with the Information Technology team to establish and/or perpetuate the purpose, priorities, goals, and expectations of the organization.
  • Work with IT leadership team to deliver, monitor, and communicate progress towards the goals
  • Work with the Information Technology leadership team, and other partners across the Company to create a Breakthrough performance environment and pursue Breakthrough outcomes.
  • Act as a liaison for the EVP and Chief of Staff, helping to provide guidance, input, perspective; and ensuring that work moves forward in a timely manner and is effectively communicated to stakeholders. Identify and provide recommendations on improvements across the organization.  Provide support on strategy work, including the True North Strategy and Transformation elements that touch the work of the Information Technology organization.
  • Assist in handling a wide range of coworker, customer, vendor, and supplier issues such as escalated complaints, solicitations, and other requests, and effectively coordinate resolution with the appropriate organizations. Participate in and facilitate, as needed, Lean problem-solving, waste elimination sessions.
  • Provide support and oversite for special projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Track performance on KPIs and hold the Information Technology organization accountable for meeting the KPIs.  

 

Communications

  • Keep the EVP updated on key issues and initiatives, external stakeholder activities, and any items requiring special attention or action.
  • Coordinate, construct, and oversee preparation of EVP briefing materials and speaking points associated with all internal or external meetings and speaking engagements.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to provide direction on overall tone and level of detail on all materials to ensure audience suitability, proper messaging/branding, and adequate content.
  • Provide support related to Board activities, including Board document coordination, review and preparation, and creation of background materials and talking points.
  • Assist the COS with larger IT meetings, including Director Summits, Think Time Strategy meetings, Extended Leadership Meetings, and All Coworker calls. 
  • Responding to inquiries as needed on behalf of the EVP

 

Time Management

  • Plan and manage leadership Lean operating reviews and other key meetings, including agenda prioritization and preparation, briefing materials, and action items. Closely collaborate with the EVP’s Executive Assistant and the EVP to develop and execute on the desired time architecture.
  • Ensure EVP has adequate review time and staffing for all meetings and events.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum:

 

  • Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of progressive experience, including experience in a large, complex organization
