Department Overview
The aim of the Integrated Grid Planning (IGP) team is to build 10-year optimized work plans for the Electric organization. This team will engage with multiple teams across the electric organization to quantify the electric system needs, solutions to solve those needs, cost to execute those solutions and impact of each solution. With this information the team will create an optimized 10-year work plan to solve as much needs as possible with the least amount of resources utilizing Copperleaf products. This plan will be created in cooperation with asset management, business finance and operations to ensure it meets the expectations of our asset owners, is executable by our operations team and meets the affordability targets for our customers. IGP Solutions team is the technical arm of the IGP team
Position Summary
We are looking for a Principal Program Manager to lead the technical enablement of IGP at PG&E. You will have a unique opportunity to join a new team to develop novel tools and solutions at the forefront of utility industry analytics and integrated investment planning. In this role you will team up with cross functional teams, including data scientists, asset engineers, risk engineers, technology experts, and subject matter experts to develop data driven solutions to ensure the organization is able to expand IGP Copperleaf solutions to achieve business outcomes. Success in this role requires a growth mindset, an appreciation for a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, the ability to be nimble and respond to IGP requirements, the capacity to synthesize technical information, and effective interpersonal communication skills.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum: $140,000
Bay Area Maximum: $238,000
Job Responsibilities
In your role as a program manager and a member of the business product owner team:
- Develop processes to support the implementation of IGP goals and strategies
- Implement feedback loops to refine processes
- Research and define users’ problem statements, use cases, and functional requirements
- Support the technical enablement of Copperleaf and other technical solutions
- Enable value models to quantify benefits associated with decisions, strategies, or projects
- Work with leadership to understand, design, and configure new value measures
- Review and understand available risk models to validate Copperleaf outcomes
- Provide thought-leadership around research requirements to further enable existing or new technologies to support business goals
- Facilitate on-time project completion by codifying roles and responsibilities
- Solve and document roadblocks the project team faces as part of continuous improvement efforts
- Conduct user testing and product demo sessions as part of an iterative development process
- Craft regular updates to leadership on project status, successes, and learnings
- Promote a continuous improvement mindset by conducting after action retrospectives and sharing learnings
- Work closely with leadership teams to identify ways to collaborate and meet business objectives
- Cross-Line of Business Engagement with Teams, Senior Leaders, and Regulators
- Develop materials for, and lead presentations to, senior leadership
- Understand and effectively communicate how individual projects fit into a broad strategic landscape
- Collaborate with dev/ops team to drive improved data access and data quality
- Partner with internal clients to advance business processes, based on analytical findings
- Support the development of external communications explaining PG&E’s analytical capabilities, current project portfolio, vision for the future, and relevant policy positions
- Work with team leadership to continually improve analytics at PG&E via demonstrations, mentoring, and disseminating best practices, etc.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
- Job-related experience, 10 years
Desired:
- 1 year of experience with Copperleaf suite of products
- Advanced degree in appropriate technical discipline (computer science, engineering, applied sciences, mathematics, statistics, econometrics or similar quantitatively focused subject areas)
- Proven ability to translate business desires into technical requirements and user stories
- History of working on complex multi-stage projects with a diverse team
- Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and enabling others
- Experience with relevant product management tools (Jira, Asana, etc.), version control tools (Git, Bitbucket. etc.), data science and machine learning tools/infrastructure (AWS suite of products, Jupyter, etc.), and methodologies (Agile, Design thinking, Kanban, etc.)”
- Experience conducting user research and using client feedback to inform a product roadmap
- Involvement or strong interest in the energy/clean tech industry
- Expressed interest in learning, experimentation, and incorporation of new techniques
- Ability to adapt to and improve existing processes
- To respond to immediate needs, experience in Electric Substations is highly desirable
