Department Overview

The Utility Partnerships and Innovation (UP&I) Leadership team is focused on the creation of transformative, scalable solutions to interlocking utility challenges through the development of third-party partnerships and the deployment of new technology and solutions that directly accelerates PG&E’s long-term strategy.

 

The Demand Response Operations & Programs team within UP&I develops, manages, and operates PG&E’s 400-megawatt demand response (DR) program portfolio, which is utilized during periods of strain on the electric grid or during periods of high prices. The DR team works closely with other UP&I departments involved in load management policies and programs, with PG&E’s Energy Policy and Procurement department, and with PG&E’s Business Energy Solutions and Customer Operations teams.

 

Position Summary

The Portfolio Development Analyst, Principal is responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive growth strategy for the Demand Response (DR) portfolio that aligns with PG&E’s goals and load management targets. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in increasing customer enrollments across all commercial, residential and pilot programs, applying methods in sales, business development, and marketing. This includes enrollment, participation strategies, measuring, driving performance, and customer relationship management. It will also require collaboration with other internal teams and engaging with external parties. The Portfolio Development Analyst, Principal should be a positive influencer that can drive results in a high-demand, highly regulated environment. The Portfolio Development Analyst, Principal will report to, and work collaborative, with the Sr. Manager of DR Programs & Operations to design and execute customer outreach strategies that meet department goals.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The work location is Oakland, CA.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $136,000.00

Bay Area Maximum: $232,000.00

 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct data analyses and customer research to identify untapped pools of prospective DR customers and aggregators/providers.
  • Develop a marketing strategy for DR programs, and collaborate with Business Energy Solutions and Marketing to design, deploy, and evaluate customer outreach and marketing campaigns.
  • Work with DR leadership and Program Managers to determine the value of current and new DR program offerings, and develop recommendations for enhancements based on industry trends, usage statistics, and customer feedback.
  • Manage major cross-functional projects and initiatives with Customer Generation & Storage and Clean Transportation teams to identify opportunities to create and scale a robust enrollment pipeline of Distributed Generation (DG) and Electric Vehicle (EV) customers into DR programs.
  • Develop annual marketing and education/training budgets and forecasts.
  • Develop metrics on success of customer and aggregator/provider outreach campaigns.
  • Possess in-depth program knowledge and be able to conduct presentations and field questions.
  • Provide sales training and opportunities to Program Managers.

  

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Finance, Sociology, Policy, Engineering, Physics or other related fields or equivalent work experience
  • 8 years of relevant work experience

  • Experience in customer sales and account management. 
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across departments.
  • Strong ability to lead initiatives from concept to completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interacting with all levels of the organization with ease. This includes but is not limited to their team, peer network, senior executives, and technical resources.
  • 3+ years of proven experience as a Program Manager or related role (e.g., Product Manager, Project Manager)
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources and develop a coherent strategy and portfolio growth plan to meet business needs.
  • Proven ability to determine and justify business value using a combination of effort required to deliver and return on investment and use this to prioritize the backlog.
  • Ability to push back and challenge leadership requests while demonstrating comfort with conflict resolution and direct, respectful communication to resolve disagreements.
  • Master’s degree desirable
  • Attention to detail/high level of organization.
