Position Summary

 

The People Business Operations Team is seeking a Principal People Risk and Compliance Analyst who will serve as the Subject Matter Expert responsible for designing, strengthening, and operating the risk management and compliance framework for the People Organization in alignment with PG&E Standards and Lean program governance practices.  This role operates as a hands-on individual contributor balancing strategic oversight with execution. This role partners closely with People Leadership, Law, Internal Audit, and cross‑functional stakeholders to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate regulatory and operational risks including those related to CPUC oversight, audits and inquiries while ensuring alignment with applicable laws, regulations, and PG&E standards.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and in-person at the Oakland General Office (OGO) based on business needs or company requirements. They successful candidate may reside within the PG&E service territory, but the HQ location will remain as OGO.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the design and ongoing enhancement of the People risk management framework to ensure alignment with enterprise risk strategy, applicable laws, regulations, CPUC requirements, and PG&E standards.

 

  • Develop and maintain the People risk register, controls documentation, and mitigation plans; use analytics and compliance resources to identify trends, anomalies, and emerging compliance risks.

 

  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert and strategic partner on People-related risk and compliance matters, including interpreting and operationalizing complex regulatory, audit, and legal findings into scalable controls.
  • Coordinate and provide subject-matter expertise for CPUC oversight activities, such as regulatory inquiries, audits, data requests, and issue remediation related to People practices.

 

  • Drive process standardization, documentation, and continuous improvement using Lean principles to embed a strong risk and compliance culture within People Operations.

 

  • Continuously monitor regulatory and compliance developments, evaluate their implications for People policies and programs, and translate requirements into clear, actionable guidance and solutions. Ensure potential risks are proactively communicated to executive leadership and risk committee.

 

  • Develop and deliver executive-ready materials, dashboards, risk assessments, and recommendations to leadership, ensuring transparency into risk exposure and mitigation strategies.

 

  • Partner with People leaders, Subject Matter Experts, Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, and cross-functional stakeholders to address emerging risks, ensure timely issue resolution, and strengthen controls and audit readiness.

 

  • Mentor and guide peers and stakeholders on risk awareness, compliance expectations, and best practices to foster accountability and shared ownership across the People Organization.

 

Background Qualifications

 

Minimum:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in any of Management, Risk and Insurance, Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; or equivalent experience
  • 10 or more years of experience in risk or compliance management, utility operations, or related field

 

Desired:

 

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience leveraging PG&E Lean standards and continuous improvement principles to support process standardization, risk mitigation, and operational effectiveness.
  • Ability to use understanding of the business to help drive strategic decision making, and to recommend operational improvements.
  • Ability to lead large and complex projects working with cross-functional teams.
  • Adept at addressing issues with diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to analyze business processes and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to lead and implement key process improvements to support regulatory compliance.
  • Champion and overcome resistance to and facilitate change.
  • Highly collaborative, able to work cross-functionally, possess the ability to forge relationships and partner effectively across various functional areas.
  • Ability to present highly complex data and findings to diverse audiences including upper management and industry and regulatory stakeholders.

 

Compensation

 

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position. The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum and the midpoint. The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

Bay Area Min: $136,000

Bay Area Mid: $184,000

Bay Area Max: $232,000
