Department Overview

The Resource Planning and Strategy team oversees strategic planning, learning strategy, communications, and industry benchmarking and workforce strategy and development.  Collaborates with leaders and Corporate Communications resources to develop and implement internal and external marketing communications, related to brand promotion.  Leads the development of the Five-Year Strategic Resource Plan for the enterprise.

 

Position Summary

The Principal Data Engineer designs, develops, modifies, configures, debugs and evaluates solutions for extracting data from various sources, implements transformation logic, and stores data in various formats fit for use by the resource planning and strategy team. Collects metadata about jobs/sources including data lineage and transformation logic to create data models and ensure data is accessible to the team. Works with IT teams, data owners, functional area leads and leadership throughout the development cycle practicing continuous improvement. The data engineer identifies and solves current gaps in data requirements and creates ease of access to ensure fast and consistent responses to leadership inquiries.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 

 

A reasonable salary range is:

 

Bay Area Minimum: $151,000

Bay Area Maximum: $257,000

 

Job Responsibilities

• Forms and leads teams to focus on complex data and analytics-centric problems having broad and significant impact that require in-depth analysis and judgment to obtain results or solutions.

• Contributes to the resolution of uniquely complex data and analytics-centric problems having significant impact.

• Creates and maintains optimal data pipeline architecture

• Created complex automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery ensuring accurate data manipulation and data cleansing.

• Provides thought leadership on infrastructure that allows data to be accessed and analyzed with verified data quality and metadata appropriately captured and catalogued.

• Aids other programmers /analysts on unusual or especially complex problems that cross multiple functional/technology areas.

• Works closely with other departments on cross-team work needs/requirements.

• Partners with the business and other departments to develop requirements and assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.

• Drives the development of departmental standards, norms, and new goals/objectives.

• Communicates (oral and written) recommendations.

• Mentors/provides guidance to less experienced colleagues.

 

Qualifications

Minimum

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field of study, or equivalent experience

• 10 years of experience with multiple data engineering/ETL ecosystems such as Palantir Foundry, Spark, Informatica, SAP BODS, OBIEE.

• Experience with multiple data engineering/ETL ecosystems.

• Proven track record of successfully implementing data warehouses/data lakes over previous five years.

• Experience leading development teams.

• 3 years of experience in machine learning algorithm deployment and machine learning operations.

 

 

Desired

• Familiarity with utility operations

• Experience in Snowflake or Microsoft Fabric

• Experience in Power BI Dataflows and Semantic Models
