Department Overview

The System Performance, Reliability and Resiliency Strategy team within the overall Electric Transmission and Distribution Engineering organization is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the resources necessary to successfully execute PG&E’s Electric Reliability Strategy and initiatives. This team of forward–thinking individuals will be tasked with deploying technology and infrastructure and influencing the organization to achieve the company’s reliability goals. The team is responsible for implementing programs required to modernize the electric grid allowing for safe, resilient and efficient operations. The team participates in a cross functional team of internal and consulting participants being tasked with leading the transition of a project from development and testing to being operational for each phase of each project.

 

Position Summary

Within the System Performance, Reliability and Resiliency Strategy team, this position reports to the Manager, System Performance Monitoring and is responsible for developing data analysis tools that quantify the reliability and resilience performance of the electric transmission and distribution grids. These tools will provide the key feedback to drive the development of the climate resilient grid that will fuel the future use of electric power in the communities that PG&E serves.  

  • This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

Bay Minimum: $122,000
Bay Maximum: $194,000

CA Minimum: $116,000
CA Maximum: $184,000

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Manages complex data analysis projects with limited supervision on only the most complex projects from initial request to presenting data results ensuring that the project is completed within budget and on-time. 
  • Designs data analysis to achieve business objectives, process data, analyze data, write clear and concise data findings and tailor communications to specific audiences. Creates automated data routines and processes for reporting and data delivery ensuring accurate data manipulation and data cleansing. 
  • Manages very complex data extracts and list pulls ensuring data accuracy. Manages extracting data and transferring the data from databases to various analysts to support operational analysis efforts
  • Analyzes data using various advanced statistical tools to develop complex ad hoc reports, statistics, trends and profiles. 
  • Demonstrates and utilizes broad expertise in data processing and data analysis and applies this knowledge to a number of different issues. 
  • Provides new and innovative solutions and recommendations to enhance database(s) with new data sources and improved data processes. 
  • Develops comprehensive reports and communicates clear, concise and actionable data analyses for clients.
  • Acts as team lead and provides direction to less experienced employees.
  • Works with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • BA/BS Degree in Marketing, Business, Computer Science, Engineering or other related field or equivalent work experience
  • 6 years of related work experience

 

Desired:

 

  • Masters degree or higher in Data Science, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Physics, Econometrics or Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Applied Sciences, Statistics, or equivalent field.
  • Job-related experience, 8 years
  • Familiarity with utility operations. 
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Excel/Access (complex formulas, graphing, VBA) Advanced skill in writing SQL queries using Oracle or Business Objects
  • Experience with electric system data from line sensors, smart meters, synchrophasors, and SCADA.
  • Strong knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Pyspark, and data platforms such as AWS, Foundry, and Snowflake
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced project management skills to lead cross functional teams.
