Department Overview

Operational Risk Validation (ORV) assesses and validates risk mitigations and controls to confirm PG&E’s highest-risk programs are being executed effectively and are driving measurable risk reduction. ORV partners with risk, compliance, and operational teams and conducts field observations and front-line dialogue to understand how work is performed in practice and where gaps may exist. The team delivers assessments and recommendations that help strengthen controls, inform future risk reduction efforts (including emerging risks), and advocate for resources needed to reduce risk to an appropriate level. 

 

Position Summary

The intern within Operational Risk Validation will support strategic planning and coordination, process and risk analytics, standard work and procedure development, and team governance for the Operational Risk Validation team.   

 

The successful candidate is organized, curious, and comfortable working across stakeholders. They should be able to synthesize information, create clear documentation, and communicate progress. Interest in operations, risk, compliance, and/or process improvement. 

 

This position will include travel for on-site/field visits and team meetings to learn more about PG&E operations and how risk mitigation work is delivered in practice. 

 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. 

 

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $24.52 to $35.37 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Lead creation of onboarding materials for the ORV team (e.g., team overview, key contacts, rhythms of business, templates, FAQs) and iterate based on feedback from recent joiners 

  • Document and improve team governance (e.g., intake steps, work planning, reporting cadence) and support change management by creating clear job aids and adoption communications 

  • Support the development of templates and standard work (e.g., briefing decks, one-page summaries, checklists, intake forms) 

  • Participate in ORV team site/field visits, synthesize observations into actionable insights, and support risk advisories by incorporating field learnings into summaries, recommendations, and team materials 

  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset by identifying opportunities to simplify, standardize, and clarify team workflows 

  • Assist with drafting and organizing materials for leadership readouts (e.g., status slides, talking points, and summaries) 

  • Collaborate across the enterprise with professionalism, curiosity, and a willingness to learn 

 

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field at an accredited University  

  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship  

  • High School or GED-General Educational Development-GED Diploma
  • No previous experience

 

Desired:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) 

  • Experience with project/program management concepts (coursework, student projects, or prior internship) 

  • Experience creating documentation and/or improving processes 

  • Interest in utility operations, risk management, compliance, or operational excellence
