Department Overview 

The Procurement organization is the functional lead for the procurement of materials and services at Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The department collaborates with internal clients and suppliers managing more than $12 billion of annual company spend to develop mutually beneficial total value solutions for goods and services. The department provides the following services to internal clients: procurement of goods and services, strategic sourcing and cost savings, category management, supplier relationship management, execution and outreach, compliance management, ongoing procurement field support and management of the source to pay cycle. 

 

Position Summary

The Manager, Materials Strategic Sourcing role is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-changing environment, brings structure to ambiguity, and energizes others through inclusive, engaging leadership. This position will play a critical role in evolving and rebranding the Material Sourcing team – elevating how we partner, deliver, and are perceived across the enterprise. This position supports the Materials portfolios goals through transactional awareness to identify potential cost savings, diversity, green supply chain, spend reduction, supplier consolidation and standardization opportunities. Identifies opportunities for efficiency within corporate and sourcing policies and processes to improve results for both Sourcing and Portfolio clients. This position leads multiple spend categories within a portfolio.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland based on business needs.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $140,000

Bay Area Maximum: $238,000

 

 

Reporting Relationship

The Manager, Materials Strategic Sourcing will report to the Director, Materials Strategic Sourcing.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops strategic portfolio and category plans to generate cost savings, deliver service excellence, optimizes diversity spending and total cost of ownership for key lines of business.
  • Ensures the overall governance of the contract approval process from contract creation through contract award.
  • Oversees contract spend across multiple spend categories
  • Develops short- and long-term strategies for all spend categories within portfolio
  • Leads complex cross-functional teams in the execution of strategic sourcing initiatives
  • Manages spend analysis, needs assessment, benchmarking and business case development
  • Leads development and execution of negotiation strategies
  • Monitors and maximizes customer satisfaction using standardized client service level agreements
  • Manages continuous improvement-based relationships that deliver mutually beneficial results for PG&E and its suppliers
  • Establishes service level agreements to hold suppliers accountable for performance
  • Approves purchase orders and contracts from $500,000 to $10 million
  • Directly supervises Sourcing Supervisors, Category Leaders and Sourcing Specialists.
  • Acts as a change agent and culture builder, promoting a strong team identity and shared sense of purpose across sourcing and business partners
  • Develops and implements frameworks to enhance team structure, communication and decision-making
  • Brings structure, prioritization, and momentum to ambiguous or evolving initiatives
  • Influences senior leader through Lean methodologies, problem solving, data-driven insights, clear and confident storytelling
  • Ensures alignment and transparency by translating strategy into action and empowering teams at all levels to execute with clarity and purpose
  • Serves as a communication bridge- ensuring priorities, decisions, and insights flow through the organization and don't stall at the management layer

 

 

Background Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required (one year of experience for every one year of college)
  • 8 years of total sourcing or related industry experience; some positions may require technical/category experience
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems and implementation barriers
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills

Desired

  • MBA or equivalent advanced degree
  • Project Management experience, Utility industry experience
  • 2-3 years of supervisor experience
  • SAP/SRM proficiency
