Department Overview

The Electric Operations (EO) safety team is a 50-member organization dedicated to supporting all PG&E electric field personnel. Our mission is to partner with EO to identify and mitigate safety exposures, strengthen controls, and develop practical field-focused solutions to emerging safety challenges to prevent serious injuries and fatalities (SIFs). 

 

We maintain a strong presence in the field observing work activities, validating the use of essential controls, and providing real-time coaching and feedback to frontline and senior leadership teams.  Through these partnerships, we help ensure that safety solutions are effectively implemented and integrated into daily operations, supporting safe, consistent, and high-quality work across PG&E’s service territory.

 

Position Summary

Develops company-wide policies and procedures for Safety and provides subject matter expertise on a variety of safety disciplines.  Interprets safety and health regulations, policies, and organizational safety and health programs. Leads safety process improvement initiatives. Partners with Functional Area Leaders and/or Regional Leaders to implement Safety programs and advises business groups by providing direction on the development of procedures. Oversees process and procedure development, implementation, and communication. 

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory. Travel throughout the service territory may be required.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of the job posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.  

 

Bay Area –  $132,000 - $196,900        
        
And/or        

 

California - $125,000 - $187,000 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Plans, manages and controls the activities of a team that provides operational support for a business segment, group or team.
  • Provides support to emergency preparedness incident command system (ICS).
  • Provides oversight to the design, development, review and implementation of innovative quality products, programs, services and solutions to support PG&E’s Safety Excellence Management Systems (PSEMS), PG&E safety guidance documents, and the safety goals of the organization. 
  • Develops and manages contracts, outside service vendors or others as required to support the organization's safety programs.
  • Works and interacts with outside regulatory agencies in developing new regulatory requirements via the State of California Standards Board or with Cal-OSHA investigators while conducting serious incident investigation.
  • Provides direction in the assigned area in support of business area objectives with short-term impact on functional goals.
  • Sets and achieves department goals in support of established objectives. Develops and implements work plans in support of department goals.
  • Participates in employee selection, career development, succession planning and training.
  • Utilizes vision to think ahead to anticipate issues and provide solutions before they impact the team. Analyzes, reports and provides recommendations and develops strategies to improve quality.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert.
  • Supports and implements the Plan on a Page (PoP) and Tactical Implementation Plans (TIP) for safety. 

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Engineering, Safety Management or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 6 years of relevant Safety experience 

 

Desired:

 

  • Master’s Degree in Safety Engineering, Safety Management or related discipline.
  • Certified Utility Safety Professional certification. 
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or similar.
  • 2 years in a leadership role
  • Experience in operations, construction, or maintenance.
  • Advanced knowledge of PG&E work methods and procedures, safety procedures, the Code of Safe Practices and organizational safety-related processes and procedures.
  • Advanced knowledge of Cal-OSHA general industry and construction safety orders and other recognized safety regulations and standards (e.g., ANSI, NFPA, Fed OSHA, etc.).
  • Advance knowledge of conducting and evaluating complex root cause analysis investigations and evaluating the effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Advance knowledge of conducting hazard evaluations for complex or widely impactful/globally applicable jobs and recommending and evaluating the effectiveness of controls.
  • Advanced knowledge of key PG&E organizations and their potential exposure to safety and health risks
