The Digital Workplace Team is seeking an IT Product Specialist Senior, in Oakland, CA or open to a flexible location within PG&E’s service territory. This position is hybrid, remote and in-person at the Oakland General Office (OGO) based on business needs.  This position will report to the User Technology Supervisor.


PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position.  The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.  The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum and the midpoint $126,000 - $163,000.  The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Bay Area Max: $ 200,000

 

Key Responsibilities

Application Packaging & Deployment

  • Design, build, and maintain scripted and non-interactive (silent) Windows application installations for enterprise deployment via Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Microsoft Intune
  • Create and modify MSI/MST packages using AdminStudio and InstallShield following established packaging standards and workflows
  • Perform installation testing and validation on Windows 11 platforms
  • Integrate configuration changes and application settings using Microsoft Installer (MSI) standards and best practices
  • Develop custom packaging solutions and resolve compatibility issues using shims where necessary


Automation & Scripting

  • Develop automation solutions using PowerShell, CScript, WScript, VBScript, and related scripting tools
  • Innovate and implement new automation strategies to improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and streamline packaging processes
  • Research and recommend emerging technologies to enhance packaging and deployment capabilities

 
Project Leadership & Collaboration

  • Partner with application owners and project teams to gather requirements and define packaging specifications
  • Lead technical review sessions to align on business requirements, deployment strategies, and delivery methodologies
  • Estimate packaging effort, cost, and timelines for project planning and execution
  • Provide regular status updates and accurate delivery forecasts to stakeholders

 
Quality Assurance & Support

  • Conduct quality assurance testing and peer reviews of application packages
  • Provide advanced post-production deployment support and troubleshooting
  • Diagnose and resolve installation and application functionality issues
  • Participate in monthly BMC Remedy/ServiceNow queue master rotation


 Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

  • Prepare comprehensive documentation including release notes, installation guides, and troubleshooting materials
  • Maintain accurate engineering notes and update workflow tracking systems
  • Develop and present technical materials to customers and leadership
  • Mentor team members and share best practices to elevate overall packaging standards

 
Qualifications & Expertise

  • Advanced experience with Flexera AdminStudio, InstallShield and AppDeployToolkit
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft SCCM and Intune deployment models
  • Deep understanding of MSI/MST packaging standards and Windows Installer technologies
  • Experience building and deploying application shims
  • Strong scripting proficiency (PowerShell preferred)
  • Enterprise-level troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment on complex technical matters
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills


Qualifications 
 

Minimum:  

  • Associates in Computer Science, Business, Engineering or equivalent work experience  
  • 4 years of Application Packaging experience  
  • Strong proficiency at packaging applications into MSI /MST format using AdminStudio and InstallShield


Desired: 

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Business, Engineering or equivalent work experience   
  • 6 years of Application Packaging experience  
  • Strong proficiency creating transforms, custom actions, chain installments, understanding software pre-requisites, and user profile settings for new and existing packages  
  • Strong proficiency with capturing virtual snapshots  
  • Familiarity with building shims to resolve application functionality issues  
  • Proficient at Boolean Logic and following other people’s scripts and AppDeployToolkit
  • Ability to create custom scripts (VB or PowerShell) and utilities (C# preferred language)  
  • Strong understanding of Windows operating systems  
  • Experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 
  • Experience working at a Utility Company 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills   
  • Competency in planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals   
  • Knowledge of LEAN principles, values, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job level
