Department Overview

PG&E’s Information Technology (IT) organization is comprised of various unified departments which collaborate effectively in order to deliver high quality technology solutions.

 

The Data, Analytics, & Insights organization is an enterprise team that is responsible for working collaboratively across various lines of business (e.g., Gas Operations, Electric Operations, Safety, Energy Procurement, etc.) and is focused on unlocking the value of PG&E’s data to support the company’s Wildfire Safety Program. As part of that we focus on delivering data and AI/ML centric products to support these initiatives. Some of the products that are being delivered include Remote Inspections, AI Enabled Inspections, Vegetation Management through LiDAR capabilities, Transmission Line Asset Master, Electric Distribution Asset Master, Asset Risk Modeling, and a Cloud Native Foundational Platform.

 

A critical part of how we operate is to apply design thinking, work and observe the Agile development methodology, and co-location. Through these principles, we work as product teams to help deliver a valuable product to our business.

 

Position Summary

We are seeking a Business Analyst on the Data, Analytics, & Insight Team. The role will be on the Analytic Product Delivery Team, following the Agile methodology and DevOps practices  to help the team deliver impactful data products for internal PG&E partners. You will lead new product and feature use case intake as well as facilitate portfolio prioritization efforts to effectively deliver our products and services. You will actively participate in an open, highly collaborative Agile environment. A successful candidate will have a strong understanding of one or more lines-of-business and will be able to identify and guide the team to areas of highest enterprise value. Additionally, they will be responsible for developing an environment where teams can be successful by removing roadblocks, fostering a culture of agility, and providing leadership & guidance. Further, they should be able to translate business needs into functional requirements, and technical concepts into business value.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland and/or San Ramon approximately once per month, or more, based on business needs.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

 

Bay Area Minimum: $129,000.00

Bay Area Maximum: $207,000.00

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Works with multiple Line-of Business stakeholders to intake new products and features and prioritize technical development
  • Dives deep into business problems to understand where process changes will be needed to leverage technical capabilities, and champions process change where needed
  • Represents the interests of the business to the team; represents the product and the team to the business
  • Anticipates client concerns and questions, and provides  proactive, timely and professional client-focused communications.
  • Have a passion for using data & analytics to create novel ways to solve business problems
  • Communicates with stakeholders regularly
  • Understands the business value of each user story
  • Works collaboratively with team of developers, e.g. data engineers, data scientists, UI/front end developers and designers, along with stakeholders, and supporting teams to deliver needed capabilities
  • Balances team workload with business user and leadership expectations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills across all levels
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Self-motivated, able to manage schedule, priorities and deadlines and to deliver quality work product
  • Cross-domain and cross-functional knowledge that will enable design of the best possible technology capabilities
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to less experienced employees
  • Administrative functions such as contractor time review & approval, onboarding of contractors into system and vendor feedback

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • BA/BS in Information Systems, Business, Engineering, etc. or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 years experience in business analysis, project management, business architecture and/or other related area.

 

Desired:

 

  • Excellent analytical and technical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of using common office productivity software
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage to budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate complex organizational, process, technical and political challenges
  • Strong leadership skills in the technology domain and a high level of drive, initiative and assertiveness
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of one or more PG&E lines-of-business
  • Experience identifying benefits and developing business plans
  • Knowledge of data management principles, data acquisition and modeling, data warehousing, business intelligence, metadata management, data security
  • Knowledge of data governance principles
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, GitHub, Slack, Tableau
  • Experience with software development methodologies and software engineering principles, with an emphasis on data related development techniques
  • Knowledge of program management theories, concepts, methods, best practices, and techniques as needed to perform at the job level
  • Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences
  • Good understanding of the Agile methodology and DevOps practices
  • Experience working with scrum teams
  • Experience with design thinking
  • Utility industry experience preferred
