Department Overview

Wildfire and Emergency Operations (WEO) is responsible for Wildfire operational mitigations, enterprise Wildfire Mitigation Plans and enterprise Emergency Preparedness & Response.  This includes Meteorology and Fire Science, Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) and Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS).

 

Position Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for directing the development of and operating the tools necessary to execute PSPS events. The candidate will work closely with product development teams, utility operations teams, meteorology SME’s and asset planning teams to ensure our PSPS tools meet the needs of our stakeholders. This includes working on and refining our current processes, strategically defining the next steps for the program, building out tools and performing analysis on historical events to inform the direction of PG&E’s PSPS program

  • This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

 

CA Minimum: $143,000
CA Maximum: $244,000

Bay Minimum: $151,000
Bay Maximum: $257,000

 

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 
 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for operating PG&Es PSPS Tool Suite which involves internally and externally built software platforms to perform grid analysis related to impacts of possible PSPS scenarios
  • Responsible for leading technical teams in the PG&E Emergency Operations Center during PSPS events to ensure that there are no catastrophic wildfires during high-risk weather conditions
  • Responsible for leading technical teams in the PG&E Emergency Operations Center during PSPS events to ensure that there are no catastrophic wildfires during high-risk weather conditions
  • Assist customers in assessing the viability of distributed technology projects, including microgrids
  • Collaborate with other utilities, manufacturers, engineering, IT, and standards departments 
  • Understand the various data streams that are needed to model grid impacts
  • Meet with stakeholders to better understand their issues and inform them of the potential grid impacts
  • Explore, innovate, and demonstrate technologies that facilitate easier grid integration
  • Responsible for identifying, developing and implementing new standards and guidelines

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Grid Modeling Software, job-related
  • Experience in electric utility, 10 years

 

Desired:

 

  • Masters Degree in Business Administration or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Masters Degree in Engineering-Power Systems or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Transmission or Distribution planning
  • Experience in Engineering, Protection
  • Experience in Transmission or Distribution Operations
  • Experience with data analysis tools
  • PE-Professional Engineer license, California
