Department Overview

The team of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

 

Position Summary

Supervises team in the research, data mining, analysis, preparation and delivery of comprehensive reports and presentations to various levels of leadership throughout the utility operations. Provides reports to aid in various decision-making such as site suitability and field asset issue investigation. Represents data standards and requirements. Integrates needs and views across multiple Operations and IT departments involved in mapping/GIS technology.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned location based on business need. You will be required to report to Oakland two times per week. 

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  We would not anticipate that the individual hired into this role would land at or near the top half of the range described below, but the decision will be dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.​

 

Bay Area Minimum: $118,000

Bay Area Maximum: $188,000

 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate by personal action a 100% commitment to employee and public safety.
  • Assists with the preparation and administration of a department budget.
  • Supervises Bargaining unit GIS/Mapping analysts and application engineers.
  • Supervises a team that develops, creates, and maintains the Geographic Information System (GIS) databases, performs data mining, and prepares data extractions, maps, web applications and GIS projects in the ESRI environment.
  • Tests new applications and programs and serves as a member or leader of intra- and inter-departmental application development teams. Prototypes and evaluates new desktop and field map technologies for electric business uses such as web map and field data collection tools.
  • Understands the spatial data needs of the electric business and translates into modern and efficient mapping/GIS database information that can be effectively used for business decision making. Determines appropriate roles and assignments within the department.
  • Is on-call once a month for day or night shift to support the Emergency Operations Center as a GIS Technical Specialist should it be activated to support an emergency.
  • Develops calendar of team member volunteers for supporting emergency fire maps and coordinates team member volunteers to support Emergency Operations Center when activated.
  • Consults with the workgroups under Technology and Information Strategy as they make business system and software choices to ensure their decisions support technically sound spatial data principles.
  • Develops and documents spatial data standards, policies, and procedures. Helps ensure they are adopted across the software systems and processes, including coordinating system standards, base data characteristics, and field lat-long collection standards. Produces the technical road map for Electric spatial data management and a library of technical spatial data standards documents.
  • Ensures a complete and accurate GIS database of spatial data that is technically sound, compatible across programs and systems and is aligned with industry standards. Advises and guides electric process owners on spatial data issues and helps solve problems and make connections across processes and systems where appropriate.
  • May lead cross departmental committees regarding GIS best practices, process improvements or changes and more strategic use of GIS spatial data.
  • Oversees creation of maps and web applications using GIS software and data. 
  • Prepares and presents periodic reports monitoring electric non-asset spatial data issues, accomplishments, and trouble spots. Authors internal documents on PG&E technical spatial data issues and concepts.
  • Represents GIS data while interfacing with Directors, Managers and Program/Project Managers in various Electric or Gas departments regarding changes, future uses of GIS spatial mapping data or drafting tools. Participates in strategy meetings and Steering Committees, delivers technical presentations.
  • Supervises staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree in Geography or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 5 years

 

Desired:

  • Experience with GIS-Geographic Information Systems and Analytics, 5 years
  • Master’s degree in Geography or equivalent experience
  • Job-related experience, 10 years
  • GISP-Geographic Information Systems Professional certification
  • ESRI-Environmental Systems Research Institute ArcGIS Desktop Professional Level certification
