Department Summary 

The Marketing and Communications function develops, executes, and oversees a broad spectrum of strategic integrated communications initiatives, provides communications counsel and support to all functional business areas, and manages the corporate branding program at PG&E. 

Position Summary 

The Expert Communications Representative will be responsible for planning, development, delivery, and dissemination of various PG&E communications programs including internal, external, executive, media, and/or online communications. You will develop and coordinate communications strategies and initiatives with the goal of sustaining and advancing PG&E’s services with various stakeholders including but not limited to customers, clients, the general public, media, stakeholders, and coworkers. This role will require strong collaboration and consultation with PG&E’s functional business areas and external stakeholders to provide timely, relevant, consistent, and unified corporate information and message regarding PG&E issues, programs, and operations.

Additionally, you will utilize your expertise as a strategic communicator to facilitate and build strong cooperative relationships with others to help guide key decisions within the company, and to package and present information accurately and at times to advocate for positions with critical internal/external audiences. 

The position is hybrid working from your remote office and in-person at your assigned HQ location based on business needs. The assigned HQ can be in either Oakland or Sacramento based on mutual agreement between the hiring manager and successful candidate. 

The position will require travel at least 25% of the time. You must also be willing and able to serve in an on-call capacity as part of an emergency response team, including on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Job Responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain relationships with media and develop responses for and respond to media inquiries, including broadcast media, on-camera.
  • Develop and review strategic communication plans from PG&E’s business strategies and priorities and ensure alignment and integration from key internal and external communications partners.
  • Develop messaging for communications with both internal and external audiences.
  • Manage the development, implementation, and coordination of communication programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain relationships and provide counsel to PG&E’s functional business areas and other internal/external leaders on how to best address and resolve key issues.
  • Partner with various PG&E leadership levels, functional business areas, and external leaders to remain current on challenges and opportunities affecting the company and its employees.
  • Review metrics to assess and resolve discrepancies within performance progress and objectives. 

Qualifications 

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, advertising, marketing, public relations, or related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • 7 years of related experience in corporate communications, journalism, or politics
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in clear, concise, easy to understand language
  • Ability and desire to craft compelling stories in print, through video and on social media
  • Passionate about serving customers and communities, particularly vulnerable populations
  • Ability and desire to be part of a high-performing team

  • Nonprofit sector experience
  • Media experience
  • Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) credential
  • Accredited in Public Relations (APR) credential
  • Professional Certified Marketer (PCM) credential
  • Experience in media or public relations, journalism and corporate or marketing communications
  • Crisis communications experience
  • Energy/utility industry experience
  • Experience in coaching and counseling corporate officers and management at all leadership levels of an organization
  • Provide strategic counsel, applying extensive unique subject matter expertise within the development of strategy, review, and/or resolution of complex issues
  • Proficient computer skills (i.e.: Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook) and experience with information systems
  • Fluency in oral and/or written communications of one or more demographic and/or nonverbal languages, not including English

 

Compensation

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position. The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location. The range to reasonably expect will be around the minimum and the midpoint. The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

 

Bay Area Min: $118,000

Bay Area Mid: $153,000

Bay Area Max: $188,000
