Department Overview 

 

PG&E’s Controller’s Organization provides Budgeting, Forecasting, Accounting, Reporting, and Tax services. It is responsible for developing processes, systems, and controls over critical finance functions.  All of these services are critical to a company with over $60 billion in assets and over $15 billion in annual revenues.  

 

Energy Accounting provides accurate and timely delivery of the company's consolidated financial statements, variance analyses, account reconciliations, and other analyses that support the filing of Forms 10Q and 10K. It partners with Regulatory Relations to address the accounting impacts of a regulated environment and ensures the application of appropriate accounting treatment and analyses under Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), California and Federal Regulatory Commissions, and Tax and SEC reporting for transactions relating to regulatory accounts. 

 

Position Summary 

 

The Expert Accounting Analyst will work within Energy Accounting to support the regulatory accounting functions for PG&E Utility.  In this position, you will review/perform the regulatory accounting entries, account reconciliations, and other analyses that support the filing of SEC Forms 10Q and 10K.  You will also ensure the delivery of accurate and timely financial data to support strategic decision making and compliance with the financial reporting requirements.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and in-person at the Oakland General Office 1-2x a week, on-average, and based on business needs and company requirements.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​ This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.  

 

A reasonable salary range is:​ 

 

Bay Area Minimum: $102,000.00

Bay Area Maximum: $162,000.00 

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Assists in development of research objectives, approach design and analysis on impacting accounting issues.
  • Provides guidance on appropriate techniques and methodologies for analyzing regulatory decisions.
  • Identifies process improvements to reduce risk during account review, improve effectiveness of communications with business partners, and gain efficiencies during monthly close review procedures.
  • Identifies, researches, and coordinates the resolution of accounting issues.
  • Manages and contributes to the department and company projects initiatives to improve processes and understands / translates financial impacts.
  • Assists analysts and senior analysts in identifying areas for process improvement at the desk level.
  • Actively communicates issues and key activities to management.
  • Works with Directors and Managers across functions to influence decisions.
  • Reviews and interprets policies, reporting requirements, rules, and regulations.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to assigned team on appropriate techniques and methodologies for analyzing regulatory decisions.
  • May act as a team lead and provide direction to less experienced employees.
  • May manage cross-functional projects or initiatives.
  • Provides guidance in the process of researching and resolving issues. May also lead the resolution of more complex accounting / disclosure issues. 
  • Implementation accounting and ongoing guidance for regulatory directives provided regulatory commissions.

 

Qualifications 

 

Minimum:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 6 years of recent relevant experience in accounting to include knowledge of GAAP and SEC
  • Strong technical accounting skills

 

Desired:

 

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience
  • Experience in public accounting
  • Excellent research and issue-resolution skills
  • Understanding of programs, policy, and operations to advise businesses on the meaning of data, results
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of technical/professional concepts
