Department Overview

Distribution Standards Engineering develops, maintains, and governs engineering standards, material specifications, design manuals, work procedures, and associated technical requirements for PG&E's electric distribution system. The organization supports safe, reliable, resilient, and cost-effective design, construction, operation, and maintenance of distribution assets by establishing technical requirements, evaluating new technologies, supporting asset strategy initiatives, and ensuring alignment with applicable regulatory, environmental, and operational requirements. 

The department collaborates with Operations, Asset Strategy, Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction, and external stakeholders to support continual improvement of the electric distribution system. 

Position Summary

This position is represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining. 

The Journey Distribution Standards Engineer requires mastery of Associate-level engineering skills and duties. This position provides engineering, standards, asset strategy, technical governance, equipment qualification, and implementation support for PG&E's electric distribution system. 

The engineer develops and maintains standards, specifications, design criteria, and technical requirements; evaluates materials and equipment; supports system reliability and asset performance initiatives; and provides technical guidance to internal stakeholders. Responsibilities increase with demonstrated technical expertise, independent judgment, and the ability to lead moderately complex technical assignments. 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

The annual salary range is:

CA Minimum, $120,888

CA Maximum, $183,840

Job Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain distribution engineering standards, specifications, design manuals, standard drawings, and technical bulletins. 

• Evaluate, test, and approve materials, equipment, and emerging technologies for distribution system applications. 

• Interpret and apply applicable engineering codes, industry standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements. 

• Perform engineering studies, equipment evaluations, failure analyses, and reliability assessments. 

• Support asset strategy, equipment qualification, standards governance, and continuous improvement initiatives. 

• Provide technical guidance to Engineering, Operations, Asset Strategy, Supply Chain, Construction, and project teams. 

• Support emergency response, regulatory inquiries, audits, and implementation of new standards and technologies. 

• Provide guidance to peers and Associate Engineers and support cross-functional technical initiatives. 

Qualifications

Minimum:

• BS Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering or other related Engineering degree as appropriate from an accredited university. For designated positions, a BSEE or BSCE only may be required.
• 3 years of cumulative experience in electrical or civil engineering, planning and/or operations.

Desired:

• Demonstrated knowledge of electric utility engineering principles and practices. 

• Ability to independently apply engineering judgment to solve routine and moderately complex technical problems. 

• Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 

• Current and active California Professional Engineer (PE) license. 

• Experience with electric distribution systems, utility standards, material specifications, and equipment qualification processes. 

• Knowledge of applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements, including IEEE, ANSI, NESC, GO 95, and CPUC requirements. 

• Experience performing engineering studies, root-cause analysis, and equipment evaluations. 

• Familiarity with utility data and engineering tools, including GIS, SAP, Power BI, CYME, ADMS, and Microsoft Office applications. 
• Familiarity with Agile methodology and experience using Jira or similar work management software to track, prioritize, and manage engineering work.

• Ability to lead projects, coordinate cross-functional teams, and provide technical guidance to stakeholders.
